Default a axle to b question

Hi all. I have an unmarked reliant axle which I assume is high ratio ad in 3.24 or something like that. I want to change the axle to a B spec. I have a b axle but the one on the trike has the brackets welded. Can I just swap the internals

In a word: no.

The meshing of the crown wheel teeth and those of the pinion is carefuly adjusted using shims.
This is done using engineers blue on the teeth of one gear, rotating the crown wheel and then examining the marks left by the blue on the other teeth. Then using years of experience adjusting the shims to get the correct contact.

The casings are not made accuratley enough to make the gears mesh by just moving the shims across with the axle components.

Much easier to get a qualified welding to swap the brackets from one axle to the other.
