Default Wanted - good quality chopper

Sorry for not replying earlier but a chopper is a very wide description of numerous styles and personally I dont know that much about chops.

Default Saxon Griffin

Thanks HOS, I don't often get on here myself due to commitments. The Saxon took a bit of getting used to being my first chopper but I persevered and I'm finally in love.. it's just having its first service as we speak and is being re-jetted. It was running super-lean and popping and farting on the overrun due to still being jetted for the tree-hugging west coasters ... should be breathing hot gasses soon....

thanks people, the paint is actually the darkest maroon I've seen with ghost flames that you can barely see unless the sun is on it (sun, in Scotland ?)
pipes are standard fit on a Saxon Griffin and you're right, children and old ladies run for cover !!
I've just managed to trace the original Griffin bars which will be going on shortly, I'll put up another pic once they're on....

Of course there is Sun in Scotland we have had 12 and a half days of Sun this year, loads

Its always good to have a bike in the garage that you really do want to get out and ride it. The kind of bike thats always on your mind because you want to be out on it.

SS2.... thanks, the ape bars were very comfortable but they didn't allow much control when the time came to wrestle the bike out of 90 degree left handers. That and my OCD left me no choice, I had to have her back to the way she left the factory in Arizona

@ SS2 ... you're right, I already have plans (rubs his hands together, creepy laugh !)

Going to source some of those combined stop / tail / indicators. They look the same shape as the indicators that are on it already, I saw some on a Harley the other day and they solve a whole heap of clutter / neatness problems. I'm almost certain they were LED's so less drain on the battery? A LED headlight is on the cards too ... phew, I'd better get some overtime in !!

I wouldn't worry too much about the lights draining the battery, when the engine is running no issues what so ever.

The big advantages of LED are longevity as there is no filament to break under vibration etc. Also they have very good light output so smaller units can be used.

I've looked into LED headlamps using HIDS but the cons outweighed the pros such as heat dissipation, light pattern (you need a specific refraction pattern on the lamp) and actual output gains. A good quality halogen bulb is just as good.

HOS - yeah, I think it depends on what level of 'fussiness' your brain lets you sit at. Mine first of all told me I was happy with the bike as I bought it but then I went downhill and wanted everything to be perfect just like everything else my OCD tells me to do.... there's gotta be a better term than OCD? Re the fit of the OCC chop, I would guess that the general cockpit size would fit most people, just that most people wouldn't be able to handle these bikes ?? When I showed up to view mine, the guy said "thank fuck you're not a 5 foot lightweight' ... he had a point I think

Strima - Ugly lucas tail light is off ! I sourced 4 stick-on LED strips that I'm going to use in conjunction with some sugru (google it ; ) to fashion a new stop and tail light. Run lengthways starting from the very tail of the fender, 2 centre ones will be the running light, 2 outer ones will be the stop light... this will be an experiment...
Good point re the headlight, the shell is not designed for LED... I can't even work out how to open it yet, I haven't got that far with that idea yet. What about a complete new unit ? ... more beer=more inspiration

This is what I like about customising.

You like it , then come the "buts". like "I don't like the back light, I'll think I'll change it" So you change it.
Then you think " I don't like the height of the bars"! So you change it.
Then you think " Hmm, those pegs don't look quit right, I'd like them a little further back/forward" So you change them!
Then you think " That seat is a bit hard/ugly" So you change it.

Then before you know the whole bike is in pieces, frame remodelled and welded new paint job, x number of months/years in the rebuild, and the bike you first bought and fell in love with has morphed into your own P&J!

Mr Tuck ... you're right ! I thought I'd bought my dream bike, my ideal, then ... I got a bit confident and wanted it all my way, the curse of being me, a fussy bastard ! Now she's off for a revamp ready for next year so I can have the perfect starting machine that I can ride from early on... new starter, a Spyke 1.4, the CR's renewed (they packed up and screwed the starter) and a sweet custom made billet fender light that is cute as fuck...
So now I wait patiently over the coming months, there's no rush, the weather here has already turned treacherous... and when I get back in the saddle next year I will be able to get some long rides in without being scared of turning the engine off to refuel or stop for a piss ...
