Mirrors are not a testable item at MoT so you don't need tham for that.

There apears to be no requirement under C and U (construction and use of vehicles)

You do need them for MSVA however and they need to be E marked or conform to the requirements for an E mark.

But I have no idea what an insurance company might make of it.
They might use lack of a mirror to shift the blame for an accident or reduce the payout should you be awarded damages.

I thought it was age related, if a bike was built before a certain date which I believe was some time in the 80's then it did not need mirrors but after that date it was supposed to have 2. I think the same date also applies to whether or not you should have indicators too.

My bike never had mirrors.... If the Germans were close enough to see in the mirror, overtaking was the last of your problems....
