Default NOT at all a pleasant experience.

I was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon, blue lights and sirens, suspect heart attack. Terrific pain in my chest and felt quite light headed. Lots of wires connecting me to various machines, tubes and needles going into all sorts of places, drugs galore. What the feck is going on I thought?

Got to hospital, x-rays, lots of prodding and poking me, turning me this way and that way. Took several attempts to find a vein and draw blood. Felt bloody awful. Kept me in over night for more tests. Saw the consultant this morning, he said I have had an Angina attack. Gave me loads of drugs to take and a spray thing for if it gets bad again. Got to go and see a specialist.

Back home now and had a kip. Feel like I have been kicked in the chest by a horse. Very tired and sore, got to take t easy for a few days. Must admit I thought the lights were going out this time. NOT a very pleasant experience at all.

Well it's good that you're still with us!

I've never understood the difference between angina and a heart attack - except that maybe angina is something that's controllable so keep taking the tablets!

Just relax, it's not as big a deal as you might think these days, I had one back in 2008 and have had no problems since..

Mate of mine got pissed a few weeks ago and fell over, woke up on the floor of his kitchen and thought he had cracked a couple of ribs, a week later he was in hospital and they discovered his ribs were fine but he had a heart attack so they decided to fit a stent, when they got him into the heart hospital they found he had water on his lungs so they had so send him back to the original hospital to get over that, a week later when they took him back for the stent they said he needed a triple bypass, and when they opened him up they did a quad bypass..he was in hospital for under two weeks and now he is driving around and you can hardly see the scars..

The operation took six hours so he must have been dead for some of that, they can do some pretty great stuff these days.

It seems to me the worst thing you can do is worry..

John.

Welcome to my world!

Let this be a warning! The spray is Glyceryl Trinitrate. GTN for short. Angina occurs when you put the body under undue excursion or stress or both! Which unfortunately you have been having a lot of recently. For me if I have to use the GTN spray a nasty side effect is a migraine type head ache. This is because the GTN spray slows down the heart rate and opens up the heart valves to allow fresh blood to pump around the system.

When you get an angina attack just take the GTN and sit down for a hour or so. you'll soon get to know the signs, mine are like a heartburn but the heart races and pain shooting up the neck and throat but no bile!

You were lucky, if they had detect some type of enzyme (it's released into the system only when you have a heart attack apparently) usually within 24 hours, that's why they keep you in for observation, they will send you down for an angioplasty, then you might get a stent or four inserted into you or worse a heart bypass or three!

You're still with us that's the main thing and Angina aint so bad. Just take stock of your lifestyle bit. Cut down on the takeaways ( home made is a lot better, healthier, (if you use oil and not fat/butter and less of the fry ups!) and cut down on the booze.

And do you yourself a big favour and give up the fags. That's if you smoke, that is.

Sorry, Sermon over.

I just let things wash over me now, and try and not to get too stressed. It's bloody hard at times, but you will find ways to compensate!

Keep smiling chum!

Angina does not only occur during exercise, exertion,or moments of stress,,Angina can be unstable and occur anytime..I have suffered 2 heart attacks and several false calls over the last 6 years or so and as a result of this i carry a Gtn spray wherever i go, and i have a bucketfull of tablets to take for the rest of my life. I dont feel the need to use the gtn spray regularly anymore, and i have learnt how to take "time out" etc.. I have got Stents (3)and i consider myself fortunate to still be around doing this motorcycle life that i love. I have a part time job as a gardener which provides regular excersize etc..I still drift back to my old ways of self abuse with a good session on the stimulants now and again ( which i know is wrong) but life has to be for living now and again eh... My biggest issues that i had to deal with are/were the psychological stuff, will i have another heart attack ? can i still do this or that ?. A life threatning occasion like this certainly puts things into prospective and makes you realise whats worth worrying about and whats not.. I wish you good health and fortune in the future Chopper..you have just had a warning..take note bud.
