Default Trikes and bikes on Motability

Hi There guy's

As a disabled person, are there any bikers out there who have vehicles on the Motabilty scheme?

Any thought's out there on Motability enhancing the existing lease hire schemes to include bikes and trikes? Boom trikes and Rewacco being the main manufacturers - I would prefer to use my DLA on a trike on a lease scheme.

There has to be some demand out there to make Motability sit up and look into this as an option.

The only vehicle currently available on motability is the NIPPI. And that is on the HP scheme not the lease.

Been in touch with Hank from Trike Design, he says that Rick at NABD used to have a deal with Black Horse where they took the Motability money and you got the bike/trike loan. Might be worth talking to Rick at NABD to see if this is still the case. HTH

I think the main problem with motability and Trikes or Bikes is that the deal is you get the vehicle for three years then they replace it with a new vehicle, they take your three year old vehicle away and put it in a car auction where it is snapped up very quickly..

There is a large market for three year old cars that have been looked after so they know they are on to a good thing..Bikes have a much smaller market..only 1% of vehicles registered on the road are bikes and many of them are cheap Chinese fallaparts..Trikes have an even smaller market.

You might consider saving your allowance and buying what you want with it..you can still register it as a disabled vehicle and get free road tax.

The MOTABILITY HIRE PURCHASE SCHEME still exists they are just very quiet about it. This was set up to allow the purchase of specialist vehicles that don't fit the scheme as John describes.

Even so the only trike available through it is the Nippi.

Anyhow with the new rules for PIP anyone who can drag their arse 20 mtrs won't get the higher rate mobility!

As a Disabled person myself i prefer the option of saving the DLA then getting a trike. Usually with the motability scheme you pay a deposit then hand over your DLA for 3 years then they take the vehicle back. While leasing through mobility scheme can look more affordable you can bet its more expensive in the long run.

Default Trikes and bikes on Motability

you can or could get motobility finance (interest free) to go and buy your own choice of vehicle, now I don't know if they will allow you to go and buy a trike with the finance thou. It could be worth dropping a phone call to them and enquire about it.
