I think you are going to have to bite the bullet and do the test before the middle of January..I don't know if there are any grandfather rights which might apply if you have been riding for a lot of years but I doubt it.

The hardest part of the test will be the hazzard perception because they do that at the same time as the theory test, you pay for it each time you take it and if you fail the hazzard perception or the theory you have to pay for and take both again.

John.

Not being funny but why should being disabled exempt you from taking a test?

before there was no trike test and I cannot ride two wheels so the law said you can ride on provisional.

To be honest I've heard people bragging about not having done a test Trikes on L's etc etc and it has pissed me off thinking well why not prove your competence by doing either a car or bike test and getting B1 on your licence. Now the changes are being brought in to plug up the loop holes. The answer is if you love your trike do the test. As with all things cost will be a grumbling point, just look at it this way " I got away with it this long" and smile to yourself and either pay up or give up depending on your determination and dedication to riding your trike.

It also stops those who were using the loophole for light cars and reliant's on L's too.

Basically any full licence car or bike will cover you for trikes. But If you want to do a trike test you have to be disabled. Which is actually positive discrimination so I can see a lot of huffing about that one too.

as wit hthe others on here - i dont agree that you should be able to ride a trike on provisioal licence indefinately, i can also sympathise with your position financially. but in hindsight if you had a years warning of this would you have started to save up for your test ?

Anyway the best people/person to ask is Rick Hulse either on facebook or on N.A.B.D.s forum.

But i suspect you gonna have to bite the bullet and take the test or be transporterless as you obviously dont have a car licence either.

Bets of luck either way.

if you can do a motorcysle test,(if your lucky not to be disabled) then thats wat i would have done..............
But up to now there was no such thing as a tricycle test. (great)
So if u can ride a trike without splashing money out on a test that didnt even exsist, then whats wrong with that???

The other night i was nearly hit off my trike by a so called licence holder,
who was totaloly at fault....So what so clever about having a licence,,,,,,,, they seem to give it to anyone............. prooves nothing..........

Sounds to me like you might be a bit jealous and bitter......................at least u got the health to do it your way,,,,,,,,,, the way you want ...
Some of us havent got a choice. Yes i agree there might be some arrogant people out there, but they are only like that because of circumstance...

NECESSITY DICTATES NEED................

Car test, would have done it, But now as you say your disabled you can do a trike test. With the only difficulty being finding a testing station. Did you sue her ?

I fail to see why you didnt sue her your injury was caused by her end of.

A car licence would have covered you to do the triking thing. Either way as you say a test is now inevitable just you do have the advantage of being able to do the Trike licence direct. Not bitter about anything just pointing out the facts. And trying to help by researching the web as much as my spare time is allowing. No I don't ride a trike yes I did ride a trike yes I have licences for Car/Bike/Trike no I'm not bragging just trying to help.

You have a choice.

Take the test, get the paperwork and carry on, legally.

Carry on riding illegally.

Give up.

Anyroadup, it's your choice.
Whinging on here isn't going to change anything.

You say licences are worthless. That's not a fact it's an opinion.

A test demonstrates a minimum (you might say minimal) level of competence.
If you've been riding your trike for long, and have the competence you clearly consider you have, then you'll breeze the test. It'll cost about 3 tankfuls of petrol.

Ride without it and it'll cost you a lot more.

I never rag that I wouldn't,just that before they were not available.I on trikes.
and licences are, what seems to me handed out regardless.
all it is is another way for the governmen to set your money.it has nothing to do with bragging, which started this part of the discussion.

SIMPLES.

Just a little lateral thinking here..

If the only way you can take a test on a trike is to be disabled, how long will it be before they drop the trike from the car or motorbike license..and how long before only disabled people can ride trikes..and how long before trike builders have to make a trike to certain British standards thus getting rid of the custom scene as far as trikes are concerned...

Just a thought..

By the way Trikist, the cost of taking your test is about 100 .. if you pass first time..

John.

t least your insurance company had the foresight to at least give you some warning about there change in polict - many wouldnt an dteh firdt you would know about it would have been at renewal time!

You say they wasnt a test avaialble - yes there was, you could have taken your trike test in a reliant - thats classed as a tricicle or evev a car which would have covered you.

as far as i am awar eyour local libray may stock latest highway code so you might not even have to buy that!

Just look at your riding habits - maybe get some advise from an instructor and stop any bad habits for a short while and u should breeze your test first time.

I am amazed and gobsmacked how you have ranted andf raved on here about the cost only to be surprised when someone took a little bit of effort on your behalf and told you how little the test fee is.

Whats teh point about going an about others ! totally not releivent to your original thread
