Default round the British coast

I reckon the bike is ready, the weather seems fine, I've done a few miles to see if I have the stamina..It's probably time to bite the bullet and start the ride within the next few days..I reckon I'll try bed and breakfast, somewhere around every 200 - 250 miles, this time I'll go clockwise..

Anyone knows any B&B anywhere on the coast for about 30 a night please let me know..you never know it could be within my stopping area...

Thanks.

John.

You planning to hit the Helensburgh area? (West coast of Scotland just north of Glasgow - A814).

If so when?

I'm loosely planning to hit as much of the coast as I can within reason, the west coast of scotland is the hardest bit because it has so many inlets and so little road..I've more or less got the M8 from Paisley to Fort William, then the road seems to head for Inverness before turning west again to Ullapool..I reckon I could spend a month just riding Scotland..but I'm not sure I have that much stamina or money left..

As to the time..I'm at the stage where I'm packing saddlebags and checking cameras, and charging things...At the moment I'm deciding on clothes, should I pack my smart James Bond go to dinner clothes or my Compo..last of the summer wine clothes, and which pocket should I put the ferret in..

You'll leave the motorway just the other side of the Erskine Bridge, you'll then join the A82(N).

A few miles further on (at Milton), you can pick up the A814 which runs along the Clyde and Gareloch - basically the west coast, this passes through Dumbarton, cardross, right by my house, in which there is free B&B if required.. , then on to Garelochhead where you Pick up the A83 through Inverary, Ballachulish and Fort Bill or you can just pick up the A82 again.

Pre booking is required (so I can make sure I'm home!).

Default Still going

Spent the first night near Aberystwyth' next morning there was the novelty of seeing the Olympic flame changeover..once in a lifetime chaschoolkids looked borednce...Yeah...Spent the rest of the day either riding through towns lined with people who had turned out to see me..The schools had bought all their kids out and they waved flags at me so I waved back and the whole town erupted into cheers..

second night was at Anglesey...Asked a woman for directions' mentioned that I couldn't get a B&B so she invited me to spend the night with her...Would you believe it, the Menai Bridge was closed from 6am until 10am for the flame..

I'm in Carlisle now, ready to head for Scotland in the morning, I should meet up with Buster tomorrow evening..then it's off up the west coast, round by John O,Groats and back down the east coast to Penicuik for Saturday night.

John.

I'm in Felixstowe tonight, I arrived here aching from head to toe, took my boots off and emptied enough water to start a new river, peeled off my wet clothes and stood under a hot shower for twenty minutes I still couldn't get warm..tomorrow I will buy a few tools and change the oil and top up the coolant and fit new plugs..I was so cold and wet I just opened her up and thought I would start collecting speeding tickets..She handled quite well in the rain...I on the other hand did not.

there are times when a good set of waterproofs and a gerbing heated jacket liner come into their own.
Even in july I`m taking mine with me to the alps
