Default Insurance company taking the fecking piss

Just had my renewal through the post for the two bikes, this year they want 271.39. Been on the old Confused.com site and had a look. With the same sodding company I can insure the bikes on separate policies for 209.27!
I'm going to phone them tomorrow and say I've got a cheaper quote and can they match it. Cant wait till they ask me who it's with

Just remember you cant have NCB on both policies, they only let you have it one of them

Good point, I'm sure there's room for them to manoevre on price on the original policy.

Yes, but if it's 62 cheaper anyway, who needs it? I assume Nufkamp has taken that into consideration when he asked for the quote

never ever just renew your policy ! its always cheeper to use the comparison websites, mostly with exactly the same policy with the same company.

I look around about 2 weeks before - 1 week before phone the company up to say i wont be renewing my policy with them and could they please send proof of ncd - then do it online the day before my policy runs out and get the new policy to start 5 mins after the old one expires

Try getting a multi bike policy? that will allow one no claims against as many bikes as you want wouldn't it? I have 4 bikes insured for any combo of 3 different riders, some insureres claimed such a policy di not exist but it's what I'm on and it only costs 140 or so (give or take 10 depending on if my 500/4 or my bmw r90/6 is the main / biggest bike.) Policy is with Lynnbrooke. They are fine with covering modified bikes too, unlike Carol Nash who are busy getting themselfs a bad name right now in sidecar circles by saying the bikes with declared mods they covered for the past 10 years apparently weren't covered because they don't do policies for modifed bikes???? Which begs the question ' why did they have a customers custom bike section at motorcycle live last autum?' Insureres are genrally a bunch of **&^%^&& who'll wriggle out of any claim and rip you off at any oppertunity, but be have to have it.

they all seem to be upping the excess as well + an extra 250 excess if you decide not to use their recommended repairer in the event of a claim

I have just re insured with Nash no problem got 3 bikes on the policy fully comp the bikes are a gay wing outfit fz750 rat and a custom Vmax the biggest and most expensive is the max with a value of 12k . Just had to give them a full list of mods to the bikes and pictures of the max .
I paid 530 but I do high mileage and because I work in the motor trade they always load up the quote .
I have been with Nash for about 20 years and they are always the cheapest for me

Don't get the Carol Nash don't do modified bike policies thing at all. They've always been one of the modified bike specialists??

They used to always be the cheapest for me up until about five years ago. Now they're one of the most expensive

I sometimes do it the lazy way.

Just phone them and say you've got a cheaper quote.

They usually match it no questions asked.

Well that was an interesting couple of hours. I'm still waiting for a callback from one company, but the results of my labours are as follows.

Renewal price from Devit, underwritten by Aviva was 271.39

Going to Aviva directly was a waste of time as they only do multi-bike policies through a broker. Like Devitt for example.

Bikesure MAG members line. 270.98. would not move on price at all and started to get arsey the more I pushed.

eBike. So far off the scale I thought they were quoting in Yen.

Footman James. Will only insure modern bikes if you already hold a FJ classic bike policy so I was told, and these are the preferred insurers of the HDRCGB. I enquired how they expect to get new business if they have this restriction, and was told that the majority of their business is with classic bike owners. OK, you stay with the dustys and crustys then FJ.

"Auntie" Carole Nash. 268.87. Have never been competitive for me, so I suspect this will be the last time I ever bother with them.

Bennetts. Because of the modifications they would not put both bikes on one policy but quoted separately at 117.09 for the Harley (with my NCD on this one) and 72.77 for the Triumph (zero NCD), with free legal cover.

I phoned Devitt and asked how we could move downwards on price, and they suggested splitting into two policies. 147.97 for the Harley and 133.88 for the Triumph. Even if I skipped the the legal cover on one of the bikes (29) they were still not much cheaper than a joint policy and miles away from Bennetts. Not only this but the phone was answered by the most irritating Essex girl voice, all "naaarwaaameeen" and "bayub". just one vajazzle away from a starring role in TOWIE.

So barring some sort of divine intervention it looks like my hard-earned will be winging it's way towards Bennetts next month as I cant see anyone bettering that.

Funny uns bennetts. They always quote my wife great prices and are off the scale for me. The buggers are all a law unto themselves. I can't weigh em up so just shop about every year.

I have been with Carole Nash for as long as I can remember and have had absolutely no bother from them. They may not be the cheapest but for what I get with all the extras, it works out that way. The free European, UK and Ireland breakdown cover clinches the deal for me as I used to go abroad at least three times a year. Horses for courses really and if you don't go abroad or, like some people I know, travel further than an hours ride from home, you may not need it and so it is an extra expense.

They were for me too mate. Was with them for about 15 years solid. Like you say, once you take everything into account they can be competitive and I always had decent service of them.

For me personally though, their prices have just sky rocketed? Go figure??

(this may have something to do with a 45K+ fault claim 8 years ago, it shouldn't but it may)

I've always used my "local" insurance broker in Romford: KSL Thomas and Co. I say "Local" as I use live there, and my dad used to insure with them. I started using them when I first got in the road with my moped in 1976. Been with them ever since!

Tried all the usual insurance thieves like Carol Nash, FJ, Direct Line, Ebike Insure, etc. and KSL have ALWAYS beaten their quotes. I don't even bother going to all these other ripp off merchants now. Straight on to Trevor at KSL and he does the rest! Simplez!
