Acute Corneal hydropsy

Got to see now of they can do anything, going to have gas/air injected inside the eye to support the cornea then maybe off to London to Morefields to have a new treatment called Corneal Crosslinking

They do this while I'm awake

The technique is performed as an outpatient procedure under topical anaesthesia (eye drops). As riboflavin does not penetrate the corneal skin or epithelium this is removed using a blunt spatula. Riboflavin eye drops 0.1% are applied to the corneal surface five minutes prior to the procedure and then every five minutes during the procedure, which involves, exposing the corneal surface to ultraviolet A radiation (370nm) at a radiance of 3mW/cm2 for 30 minutes. At this low energy level, UV wavelength and using this concentration of riboflavin, the technique has been shown to be safe with no endothelial damage provided the cornea is thicker than 400?m, with no loss of corneal transparency and no damage to deeper ocular structures. In laboratory studies Riboflavin/UVA cross linkage has been shown to improve stress-strain measurements, reduce the swelling rate, increase shrinkage temperature and increase the resistance against enzymatic degeneration of corneal stromal tissue. Clinical studies have demonstrated stabilization of keratoconic eyes with no evidence of progression with up to five years follow-up and some slight regression of the ectasia (bulging of the cornea) by an average of 2 diopters. No long term problems in terms of loss of transparency of the cornea or lens have occurred after cross-linkage surgery.

Well that sounds quite positive..you could be back riding again by next year...but take it easy...if it is like most other eye operations they only do one eye at a time just to be on the safe side, with only one eye it is hard to judge how close things are to the blind side.

I'm sure it will all work out fine.

John

That doesn't necessarily give me any sight back, then depending on that though I could maybe have a corneal graft. Like I've already got in my left eye. My right eye was my best and did most of the work. , that may or may not give me some sight back. But as with everything in can or can not work.

The graft saved the eye but my vision was made a lot worse.

Either way its about 2 years work.

If you go to Moorfields you're in the best possible place, you might remember this http://www.100-biker.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=13749

Good luck my friend.
