Default Do you HAVE to have a front mudguard ?

Does anyone know just what the law / MOT regs are for front mudguards on bikes?

Have you got to have one ? Can you do away with it alltogether ? If you do have one what is the minimum size ?

Thanks in advance.

Not for MoT, but for Constructions & Use - won't fail an MoT, as long as MoT man knows his stuff, but will get you into trouble with the Law if they're feeling arsey.

no you don't... don't need to record a mileage - it's optional..

also don't need to start it either as there's no emissions test

Ahh yes they changed it 2 years ago. But you do need a Speedo on the road.. Remember the MOT rules are not the usage laws.

You do need a speedo for the MOT but. you dont have to be able to see it.It can be mounted on the forkleg, footrest or at the back of the vehicle.

Speedo function is not checked so it does not need to work.

As far as I can see the speedo aint even mentioned.

There is basically three lots of rules MOT C&U and Type approval.

Some things like mud guards and chain guards (For a normal chain run)are not in type approval or MOT.

But C&U says the vehicle must not cause danger to any road user and that is normally assumed to mean moving bits must be covered. But would be for a judge to decide before it actually becomes law.

SSSOOooo if the copper does you for not 'avin' a mudguard or chain guard.
If you accept it you gets to pay the fine. If you insist on going to court the judge makes a ruling which then becomes law.

But I recon you is gonna run out of money before they do!

If you play wiv other types of vehicle, try this lot.
