Default It's official - we ARE all old gits!

Thought it smelt a bit of wee and biscuits in 'ere.

From an email I just recieved:

'To emphasize how important this is, you only have to look at the recent NEC Show visitor survey to see that the under 25 year old visitors are almost non existent at only 6%, with a staggering 94% of visitors over 25. The largest sector now being in the 35-49 age group, which represents 52% of all visitors. This does not bode well for the future of the market across the board'

How do we redress this then?

We redress it by shagging a lot and breeding more bikers.

How do they know. The survey probably only asked 100 people and the only ones carrying a pen to fill out the form were those over 35.

67.275% of all statistics are made up.

As I am over the 35-49 age group, I feel I am redressing the balance, as I am well into second childhood.

Cost must be part of it, cost me a mint to get leathers, licence, bike and all the rest of it, lots of time to keep a legal bike going and a deal of predudice along the way from quite a few in the indutstry, particuarly when it came to getting mot's and service. I'm in the 25 - 30 brackett so not quite that young. How to redress this inbalance, Well for starters stop for broken scoots and 125's and offer help and advice, these little bikes cost a fair bit to get and tend to get abused, this gets very dispiriting if your being charged thru the nose for serviceing, rapidly a car begins to look good.

Spot on.

Young chaps between 16 and 25 dont want to go to some boring show at the NEC, they would rather be out drinking, taking drugs and shagging anything with a fanny and a pulse.

It's hardly surprising Nik,
When you factor in the cost of bikes( way overpriced and getting worse) the cost of a DAS course ( soon to become a lot more expensive)
insurance ( stupidly overpriced) road tax ( just about bearable) and the cost of fuel( over priced way too much for years) it's no bloody wonder youngsters and older folk are priced out of the game.

The younger folk are priced out of it as unless they are in decent jobs they can't afford new bikes or the licences to ride them. Older folk, especially those poor sods who have had savings wiped out by the twats that ruined the banks and the pricks in government that allowed it would rather heat their home than buy bikes and pay tax on a recreational vehicle.

New bike prices are way over the top and the manufacturers have beeb taking the piss for years, the performance of many new bikes does not reflect the step up in price on new models, in fact you could argue that road bike development has gone as far as is sensible for road use so your paying for stuff that makes no bloody difference at all on the road.

That's why the figures are like they are. You have to be a well paid, middle aged, person in long term employment to be able to afford to get into biking. I'm just glad I did my licences when I did, however my eldest lass Ki8m wants a bike and will probably have to get a loan to afford all the new bloody hoops folk have to jump through to get a licence let alone afford a bike.

It's the fault of the money mad fuckers that make the bikes and all the legislation surrounding the use of bikes that have caused this problem so blame them.
It won't change sod all but at least I've got it off my chest

Dont you think some of us are to blame for not attracting the youngsters!!
" If you ride that bike your a tosser "
" You cant wear that jacket with that badge on it"
" I'm better than you cos my bike cost more"
" You dont ride a hardley so you are shite"
" Three wheels and your out "
And so on and so on.

Look in the mirror and ask the question - What do I do to help biking?.

For example 20 to join MAG. Not a lot to ask is it.

I think lots of us have too much shite to say and not enough to put back into our way of life.

There, thats off my chest !!!!!!!

Well , I have been riding since I could and did used to go to rallies , events etc , but it put on the back burner in my early 20s so I could get on with building up business and earning a good living , Now that I am nearly 30 and abit more secure have got more time for the bikes again , Just the way it happened , never been off bikes but just more pressing things got in the way .
Also never been to the NEC cos it damn far away and would rather spend me time playing Besides If I want something enough I can find it cheaper by waiting or make it myself . Bike type stuff of course .

Perhaps its just a gap that has to be there ???
