Default New Honda

info nicked from somewhere else

YOU'RE LOOKING at the new Honda Fury, a chopper-style production bike due for an official unveiling at the New York International Motorcycle Show tomorrow Friday.

The Fury's quite a departure for Honda, courting the hi-dollar new-style chopper scene, which has gone from strength-to-strength over the last few years.

The Fury's powered by a 1312cc fuel-injected, liquid-cooled V-twin motor. A 200 section rear tyre and neatly hidden monoshock give the Fury a hard-tail look but without the back-breaking ride. At 1808.5mm, the Fury has the longest wheelbase of any production motorcycle.

Is that a strange looking frame, or am I out of touch. It looks like a cross between a cruiser and a racer, Hefty twin for endurance and lightweight frame and wheels for speed. I wonder what the punters will think.

nice but i would shorten the wheel base by lengthening the headstock, thus moveing it back down the frame. then dump that crap tank!

What's the point of any custom?

People get/make them because they like the look. Why should the fact it's a factory custom (if that's not a contradiction of terms) make any difference?

I like the look of it, but I wouldn't buy one. Not practical enough. Nowt to do with it having 'Honda' written on it rather than a posh Custom Shop.....

I like it. It looks alot better than any other jap custom out there atm with the possible exception of the 09 VMAX.

If they do a blacked out version it'd look even better

I don't mind the shape of the tank, just think it should cover the frame rail and move forward a bit. The rear guard is way too high, but that'll be due to it being a softail no doubt. Its no bad, all in all, and it'll be interesting to see where Honda pitch the pricing. They'll have to undercut the Harleys by a fair margin to shift them, but if the frame and powerplant are good, its an ideal starting point for further customisation IMO. Would I care that the powerplant's not from Milwaulkee - no couldn't give a shit, but it might limit the tuning options.

Call me cynical, BUT I wonder if Honda will be bringing out a massive range of accessories to complement this bike. Maybe it intentionally looks like it could be improved upon. If they get the price for the base model right, there'll be takers I reckon.
In this financial climate they could be onto a winner. If people aren't going to shell out for a new model every two years, what they might do is part with some cash every so often to improve upon what they've already got. If it sells well, I predict eventually there'll be an accessory range to rival Goldwings. See if I'm right.

The 09 Vmax has all the possibilities to be a great bike the engine is big enough the format is tried and tested by a model that acheived cult status all around the world! but it has a top speed of 139mph and no Vboost. They even left off the trademark chromed cylinder fins and they are selling for over 16,000.

I don't know the specs of this Honda but off the shelf it looks as if it could easily go faster than 139mph, I agree the tank looks odd and allows too much frame to show, the frame looks thin to me, almost as if they are cutting costs, and I wonder about frame whip on the twisties, it doesn't really look like a Honda. But whatever, it certainly has got us talking about it. I reckon the engine will last forever so for you youngsters it might be a good buy on the second hand market a few years down the line.

I don't have many years left so I will just stick with the old 145bhp max.

John

I might buy one down the line, It's got all the potential to be something very interesting, then again all my bikes get got based on fuel economy, spares prices and suchlike 'boring' factors so I'll probably still be on my 500/4 then.

TBH comparing the Vmax and this new Honda wasn't really a fair comparison to make as they are pretty different bikes. I only mentioned it because the new max is about the only other jap bike out there that appeals to me atm.
Looks good, goes like stink etc, something big and heavy that can piss off sportsbike riders who don't know what they're doing.
Won't be shelling out 16k for one though!

As for the 139mph top speed, thats electronically limited so I doubt it'll be long before you can derestrict them easy enough.

I agree the new max looks good, but why bring it out with a slipknot tied tightly around its knackers.
