Hi, I have always used Solvol, a lot depends on the alloy. It takes a bit of time and effort but I can still bring up the carbs on my t140 bonniville to look like chrome.

I polish mine with a buffer and 'soap' Then I give it a couple of coats of clear celulose varnish and it keeps its shine for years.
