Default Bike Theft

I am Stuart Morrissey, aka Madrider1961 On fri 3rd oct My bike went for walk with 3x scroots to be trashed

On the evening of Friday 3 October 2008, Stuart decided to ride across to the other side of the city of Plymouth to visit some friends to discuss ideas for the 3 day bike rally he is planning for the summer of 2009. He arrived at our friends house and said he would take the dog for a walk with the children. On returning at approximately 2215 hours he found that his motorbike, a Jialing 125cc Sport, had been stolen from right outside our friends house. Stuart immediately contacted the police, who were quick to respond to his call. Meanwhile Stuart and our friend Martin, and his family walked the streets in the vicinity in an attempt to find the bike. Pieces of the bike were found nearby and placed into supermarket carrier bags; the broken headlight, windshield, speedo etc, where ripped from the bike and discarded on the floor. The front wheel had been twisted and the front forks damaged.

Ironically, three of the culprits walked up a lane behind Stuart and his friend after they had trashed the bike. Clearly they must have realised that it was Stuart's bike as he was wearing his sponsored bike jacket, the bike also being marked with sponsorship.

The police quickly responded to this incident with a number of police cars and a police helicopter in the immediate area. The three culprits in question were quickly caught, arrested and escorted in separate cars to the police station. A spate of bike thefts and subsequent torching had been taking place over the last six months but the police had been unable to catch the culprits.

Stuart went to the police station to make a statement but the police would not permit him to speak to the culprits. He just wanted to ask them WHY? they had done it.

All three culprits spent a night in separate police cells. From information that we have obtained, two are still in custody as at Tuesday 7 October, and one has been sent home under parental custody. DNA was found on the bike, which was taken away for forensic evidence as one of the culprits had blood on their hand. It is understood that further evidence has come to light which will result in a further arrest. With the evidence that the police have regarding this spate of bike thefts, it is hoped that the judicial system will deal with the culprits accordingly.

The bike has now been released by the police and has been transferred to a local bike retailer for inspection by the insurance loss assessor. It is not only just the fact that your bike, car or whatever has been stolen, it is the anxiety, stress, inconvenience and unnecessary expense that comes with it as a result of same. Stuart has found it difficult to come to terms with the theft as he has raised many thousands of pounds over the years for different charities and has again this year, raised money for DebRA, helping sufferers with Epidermolysis Bullosa. He has in the last few months also sponsored a local Plymouth under 12's football team, Keyham Kolts. He can not come to terms with why he has been treated in this way by the youngsters of today.

The Jialing 125cc had taken Stuart all over the country, supporting bike clubs and attending ride-outs, charity events etc. The Jialing also carried him around some of the roads in the Scottish highlands on his last charity ride around the UK in aid of DebRA. His bike was a familiar sight around Plymouth and I am sure that his new Honda CG125 will soon become just as a familiar sight with fellow bikers around Plymouth and far beyond.

Today Stuart has picked up another bike, a Honda CG125, so he is now back on the road.

Kind regards

Nice to know devon and cornwalls finest actually did something for a change, glad he's got another bike, and can carry on the good work, i watched him coming back from a ride a couple of months or so back, and that little bike certainly proved itself. hope the cg does as well.

Glad they got caught, but they probably did him a favour enabling him to swop his Chinese bike for a Jap. It may be that he was lucky and had a good one, but many are cheap shit. My lad bought a Chinese 125 which looked a well engineered race rep look-alaike (even though it was a 125 single). The thing was massively top heavy and low sided on spit and then the front brake stuck on after the piston worked itself out. Within weeks the finish was going and the best thing that happened to it was it got stolen. The Wellingborough police found some scrote sitting on it, claiming he's 'found' it. Ha! bloody! Ha!. I don't know what happened to him but my lad didn't buy another bike as he feels he can't secure it.

Really gutted for Stu, hes always raising money for charity on his bike and he must be devastated.
Glad to see the police responded well and have been able to make arrests, lets hope the judges can offer more than slapped wrists.

Copied it onto another site too.

Never underestimate the power of a good Kryptonite lock or similar if you leave your Bike somewhere dodgy.I have had 3 Bikes chained on that in a Dodgy area in Portugal....and get some Pacsafe stuff for your luggage....it works...a pain in the arse I know but people have been done around me whilst my stuff is locked...
