Default Worst bike you ever owned

As Im getting hacked off with some of the threads, I thought I'd start one about bikes, whats the worst you've ever owned?
Mine was a Yamaha XVZ1300, de-tuned v-max lump in a cruiser frame, great in a straight line, but shyte on corners

Difficult to say, I've had some right bags of crap, but two main contenders,

First is Honda CB400A Superdream 2 speed automatic. Flat as a fart it was and the lack of clutch was just confusing.

Second is a yamaha XZ550. Shaft drive, low maintenance which was good, everything else was bad though. Heavy as hell, wobbly at anything more than 70mph, shite on fuel and just generally crap.

Yammy TDM 850. It would pop fork seals for fun every couple of weeks.Almost characterless as it didn't seem to fit in any 'niche' description.

My worst was a Kawasaki Z400J I bought in 1989 cos I needed a bike to get me to the Kent show.

Sidecar tyre on the front, no front brake and an intermittent missfire - it got me there, at about 90mph in the pouring rain. Bastard thing didn't get me back though, it expired after a few miles on the motorway. RAC took me (and it) home, but I could never get it to run properly again despite months of trying. Bloody front brakes were impossible to bleed too, despite umpteen attempts.

Aren't all cruisers shyte on corners?

I haven't had a really shyte bike, but I'd have to say my first (Kawa AR125) was a pile of crap but I loved it anyway. Bought it for £300 from the scrappy got it running and MOT'ed. Ran it untill it need top end doing, rebored etc... Ran it a bit more untill I crashed it, got it running again untill the bootom end was about to go, sold it for £150...

Time taken from start to finish 9 months...

Used the money as a deposit on a new Marauder 125 which I loved but in a different way

XS400 for dispatching, it was like holding onto a road drill.
On it's first run, it lost the kickstart somewhere around Croydon and I can't remember it ever doing 300 miles without the points needing attention.

Highlight was breaking down on top of the Dartford bridge (I was so tempted just to throw the twatting thing over the side).

Ariel 350 side valve. First bike I ever owned that had a manual advance/retard. Joy of joys I had no idea what it was for till I kicked the fecker over. It kicked back like a mule and threw me over the bike. I woke up (i's passed out with the pain) between the bike and sidecar. Tried to stand up and my leg just folded as I had snpped the knee joint wide open as my leg had bent backwards instead of the more usual forwards. It was Sunday lunch time in the 60's and the streets were deserted, so I had to sit on the bike and push it backwards to get it home. I had my dinner and when my mates turned up they suggested I went to the hospital where the break was confirmed.

had one!

bought it during one of my many skint periods for 400 quid, used it for a couple of years, then sold it for 500.

brilliant little machine. ran it all over the place including a two-up tour with the missus down to paris. the auto box was great in the paris traffic.

never let me down ever.

can´t say i´ve ever owned a really bad bike (though my perspective has been coloured by owning various jawas and MZ´s - any wheels are better than walking), just some have had more.....shall we say `idiosyncracies´ than others.

XS750

utterly, utterly shite, slow and unreliable.

Only had three gears in the box by the time I'd finished.

Suzuki LS400 Savage.

Currently sat in a mates garage, bought as a winter hack cos it was cheap but I'm 6ft 5in and 23 stone so it's far to small and way too fucking slow!
Got to stick it on eBay asap!

Other than that never had a bad bike. Even the slightly ropy bikes were great fun.

1975 cb500 twin
someone in their wisdom had removed the starter motor and welded up the casing so I couldn't fit a new one

I had to put it on the main stand to kick it and it would scribe lines in the pavement as it went backwards every kick

at best 20/30 kicks would start it

at worst hundreds

one day my boss complained about the hundred foot parallel
scratches on his recently laid concrete

it had to go when my so called mates used to take bets on how many kicks it would take before it started

it looked like the one below
even looking at that photo gives me horrible flashbacks

CB550 chop was my worst. It looked great but never wanted to go anywhere. Was promised it would be finished for my wedding (6mnths), paid a grand for it, never happened. It wasn't even working for my first anniversary. Only started to like it after we put a GPZ550 motor in it.

Had a Honda G5 that handled so badly, every bike I've had since has been an improvement.

Next up was a CX500....engine probs.

Like others, any wheels are better than walking, and most of the problems I've had were self-inflicted. I'm crap at any maintainance that doesn't involve the use of a hammer.

Dead easy.Yamaha XJ600. absolutely loathed it with a passion.Absolutely no redeming features. Eventually sold it to one of my wifes work mates who managed to throw it down the road big style and killed it after two weeks.

Had a couple I could pick holes in but to be honest, they've all been transport an' I've been happy enough to ride them at the time.... even if many years ago I did have to ask a girlfriend to get off the pillion seat so as the MZ125 we were on would make it up Rodmill Hill in Eastbourne. The MZ was a good buy at £50 whilst my T140V an' Suzi GS400 that I had at the time were both off the road.

Worst one for me was a Honda NS125F, 2 stroke, (i should have known better)
used to fail to start with monotonous regularity. blew regs and headlamp bulbs a lot too. after pushing it for 12 miles up hill back to Saltash i dumped it. got a reliable old CX custom after that. Now got a brill XJ600 Divi good, but not brilliant.

that's it Stevie you've opened up my deepest darkest locked away hated memory............................................ .......

my first bike was an mz 250 single two stroke
every time i rode it, it tried to kill me

every time I changed down the bsatard locked the back wheel
in the rain it prefered to travel on it's engine casings
it put me in hospital a few time before I part-exed it for my first cb550

Thanks again for the memories Stevie

I'm off to call my shrink

A GS550 I bought after the current one got wrecked. It looked pretty, but it was an utter dog, wouldn't do any more than 70mph.A fair wee bit of that bike was cannibalised to rebuild the wreck........

Gs 550 bag of crap i bought when i was badly in need of transport, it used to start only when i wanted to lights would fail regularly, ching shen tyres would slip if it rained 50 miles away, the brake disks were warped forks were shot, 70 mph flat out but 50 was all i dare do most of the time ,in short a total death trap that i had to ride for 6 months

The last straw was when i started it up one morning in a rush cos i was late for work, it waited till i'd got my clobber on then stalled & refused to start i took a scaff pole to it & battered it so thourghly it took 3 of us to drag it over the road & throw it in the ditch the next day

250 superdream used as a winter hack - it was just so fucking gutless and I was not upset when someone decided to rear end us, the compo and what I got for the bike bought me a guzzi - now that was a really shit bike, it was as shitty as my harley but without the fun factor - those three were my only shit bikes, three out of eighteen isn't too bad - that's not counting the honda cb175 winter hack which was so long ago that I can't remember what was shit about it, but it was shit
