Send a message via Yahoo to hacky
Default

This message means that the connection to the server is not being established.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account',
Server:'your_POP3_server', Protocol:POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): NO,
Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e

Possible causes

1. Antivirus email scanning may be disrupting the connection when it attempts to scan the email coming through. If this is occurring, make sure to disable the incoming and outgoing email scanning in your antivirus software.

2. Firewall software not configured correctly can block the email ports 110 and 25, causing connection failures. This is easy to determine, simply disable your firewall and see if the email downloads correctly.

3. Mail server problems. It is possible that virgin may be experiencing problems with the Email server or is performing maintenance. In this case please try again later.

Are you perchance trying to send that email through Virgin whilst connected through a different ISP?

I'm with orange, and I had a similar problem. I went into my email account and found it had about 13k of spam sitting in my junk mail! Took me about 20 mins to delete the fuckers, but after that no more failures to connect!

Try different port settings. Had the same problem with one of mine a while back...

Also check on how you connect - secure server, passwords, addy and server name. This may help.

The error 550: User not authorised to forward is usually generated by trying to connect to an SMTP server that is on a differnet domain to the connection

eg: you are connected via BTOpenworld but are trying to sendmail through Virgin.com smtp servers.

If you are using Zone Alarm as a firewall with Win XP with automatic updates enabled... Windows update KB951748 conflicts with ZA and causes 'Net and / or email shutdown.

(See --> HERE <-- )

Shut down ZA and try it, if that's it then you'll need the ZA upgrade to fix it as f^&in Windows keeps trying to reinstall its upgrade every time you delete it...

Thanks to PaganFlame for that posting. I have been tearing my hair out (like that's possible!) trying to regain internet access. The only way I could get on was by closing ZA and switching on Windows Firewall, which I don't trust. Now I know how to sort it.
