It is unusual for the 'discs' to rattle, even more so when braking as the pads are forced against them, sounds like something else wrong to me. Possibly a stuck caliper letting a pad rattle against a piston? Miore likely to be something else entirely Kylie (see what I did tyhere?).
I had a quick look over your bike at your place and they looked fine to me.

Ah well, i shall see what they say at lunch, might as well get them looked at by a professional and see what the opinion is. It's distinctly possible i need new pads too by now, so will get him to check them, not sure how long they normally last for, but these have been in over a year.

And Pyro - you're a poet and you don't know it

That's probably the cause of the rattle, worn pads.

Never had floating discs rattle, even on a bike that did 75,000 miles on the original bobbins.....

I'd agree with the others, get 'em checked out, preferably by some brave soul giving the bike a test ride. It's very difficult to describe sounds in words.....

Right, the nice man took me to see the nice professional lady who says - left hand one knackered needs replacing, right hand one "totally goosed". Also noticed front tyre has started to perish and thats not very old! (about 6-9 months), and rear wheel bearing has gone cos the rear wheel has too much movement - that she didnt seem AS bothered about, she said it was only a little bit.

Also need to get some exhaust tape round that hole before MOT she says.

Very nice lady.

So.. they've quoted me 247.99 for genuine suzuki discs (cheaper than the pattern), and 2 sets of new pads to go with the shiny new discs. Seems reasonable to be honest.

Lady said she could fit them for me, but as was said before by them - if she hits upon a problem with getting bolts out etc then could end up paying money for nothing, so probably do them myself (under supervision of course).

Not sure what to do about the bloody tyre tho.

Do the tyre at the same time as doing the discs, it saves taking the front wheel out twice.

It will need doing before the next MOT though so you might as well do it sooner rather than later.

get saving up.

They are and thats correct.
on initial inspection the metal bobbins may be worn as the discs may have a little bit too much sideways play. but having just looked at mine, they also seem to have a similar amount, so I wouldn`t worry too much.

I know some folks don`t like EBC brakes, but I`ve found em ok, and I tend to get my stuff from Brakes for U or
B & C Express

I refer to my previous comment about people not being able to stop very fast who are riding behind me!!!!!!

And it has been professionally verified my discs have had it. Totally utterly in the case of the right hand one, and only totally in the case of the left.

Oh and Grav... she found the same tight spots in the chain too - but they're free when she poked them.. she said it was unusual and also said that it usually happens in chains that havent been lubed enough.. but she could see i definitely used plenty of lube (not that the fact i've got it all over the tyre, centre stand, sprocket.... was anything to go by at all... )

Yeah thats all i found last night - bugger all!

Nice man at tyre company asks that i send him pictures of tyre and he will investigate. He wasnt at all surprised to hear it had come from the place it had, apparently they have lots of contact with/about them (and not in the lets be friends sort of way!)

Minxy knows more about suzukis than most folks I know, maybe she could help identify a set that would fit?
