It's not the questions which are a problem, it's the hazard perception bit. It's good to have a practice at that before you go because if you click too many times on hazards you fail for cheating

First off. only buy the books that have been done by the DSA. They have to have the questions in - don't trust the wAAnkers or RAC, as they get their info off DSA.

Also, you can go onto the DSA website and do mock theory tests online.

Finally, get a copy of the highway code. Half of the questions are common sense and the rest are Highway Code.

As has been said, it's the hazard perception that catches people out. You do need to practice for that. You've got about a 5-second window in which they expect you to click to identify the hazard.

The school I used to instruct at let people practice for free on their copy of the CD and will help out in terms of what they're looking for.

Best bet is to ask around at local training schools.

Kids! Why waste money buying books for a computer based test? The only one you will need is the Highway Code.

And of course the DSA want you to believe that their publications are the only valid ones, it's so they can make (even) more money off you. When I applied for my Instructor's licence, I was tipped off to ask at the same time for a book with all the Theory questions and answers in, which they duly sent and charged me 2 quid for.

In the meantime, buy THIS DISC, has everything all on one disc (NB - DVD-R, no use if you don't have a DVD drive on yer computer.)

That one has all questions and answers, Hazard Perception clips, you can even download questions on to an Ipod for practice at college / on the bus etc.

Once up to speed, you can then do full mock tests - something you can't do with any book.

Free Websites:

www.theorytestadvice.co.uk (mainly for car drivers but good information site)

www.theory-test.co.uk (free questions and clips but you have to register)

So you know what to expect when coming up on one.

e.g. - Lorries (HGV) are restricted by Euro law to 90km/h = 56mph.

Q. What's that got to do with motorcycles?

A. When going down a ramp onto a motorway / dual carriageway, if there's a lorry next to you on the carriageway - you need to go more than 56mph to get in front of it, less than 56mph to fit in behind it.

I'll get me coat.

It's about what's likely to be going on around you and what potential hazard any vehicle may or may not pose.
