They have you by the short and curlies, Drew. They will argue that it takes less than 5 minutes to sorn your vehicle and you have no excuses unless you are a member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

I got two last year, wrote to them and sent copies of my other sorns.
I explained that as shown this was the first time i had failed to do on time .
I also included a copy of a previous sorn comfirmation from them which stated a reminder would be sent.
Got a slapped wrist ,but everything was cancelled.
All the best with it

As all above say , its worth writting explaining the situation , I had a fine from them last year for apparently not telling them I sold a vehicle , even though I bought it cat C damaged so no log book , I had it VIC tested and sold it to a friend so applied for the V5 in her name and they tried to fine me £55. for not telling them I sold it.Phoned the enquiry number to be told there was nothing they can do about it , " If you want to contest then you must write to us and we will forward it to the court " thanks for feck all .

I wrote them a polite note saying I go through 20-30 vehicles a year through work and play and explained had I known I would have applied for the V5 in my name then changed it to my friends after but she needed to tax it to be legal .

They replied saying it had been quashed . Worked a few times with parking tickets too . The ones they said I hadnt paid and I said I didnt receive

Worth a try mate .

I am having the same sort of ****e from these fecking idiots at the moment.

I bought my Superglide about THREE FUCKING YEARS AGO and still haven't got a log book. I have a file of emails from DVLA all contradicting each other. Some demanding money (Fines). I have written to them, I have sent them a copy of the receipt, but they want the original of course, I have sent them a letter I got from the previous owner as they requested. It is like talking to a brick wall.

I can't tax the bike, so legally shouldn't ride it. Been stopped by the fuzz and had to explain why I didn't have any tax on the bike. As I had insurance and MOT, the bike was in good order, they said they would report the matter to DVLA and I should be able to sort it out. Still waiting for the scrunts to get thier act together.

I have a bike sat in my back yard, an XS650. I have owned it for about 8 years, but I cannot find the log book. I have a bike that I am completely rebuilding, as XL185 Honda. Got a receipt showing when I bought it but no V5. Why the fuck we have to jump through hoops just to keep the penpushers busy defies all logic and really pisses me off.
