PCI recovery works well for freeware, has the drive been defragged?

I would recommend plugging it in as a slave before you attempt to recover anything.

The thing I backup regularly are my photos.
Everything (including my 80Gb of music) can be replaced, but my pics can never be.
I have even gone to the length of burning dvd's of my photos and giving them to my mum to look after in case I had a fire or something that wipes out my disk backups.

Easy Recovery Pro... if you can "find" it... not chep to buy.

Very little escapes it, long-deleted things will appear... (Can make for some embarrassing moments... I try to keep a straight face)

Saved my bacon when my supposedly bulletproof Backup System went tit's up... (some twat pulled a cable).

well thanks all (worked a treat Yoda-Ta-I owe you a drink
have recovered 147,000 files

only problem is....

not my hard drive

neighbour gave me an old PC, with an 80GB hard drive. I had over written with XP a while ago, but I thought that this build was with a 250gb as master & my 80gb as a slave-another 80gb drive that I got from my brother in law. But obvously not

well when it said it was performing a deep scan, little did I know it would refer to some p*rn that was also showing some "deep scanning" too!

Ga-hahahahahahahha

don't worry, nothing dodgy in the chris langham sense, but funny all the same.
on the plus side, I have lots more MP3 files too

soooooo

tomorrow night, I will do it all again on the other drive. Lets hope my brother in law hasn't got any really dodgy fetishes !

Still not as cheap as two 500Gbs

I wonder how long before we refer to terrabytes as Tbs we're getting silly now aren't we..look up the year you were born in the Encyclopaedia Britannica and most of you will find that you own a bigger faster computer than the biggest in the world for that year...Digital cameras still amaze me...Humans...We surpass the Gods!! Umm... We (in the IT profession) have been talking about Terabytes as TBs for years.

Big systems are now dealing in Petabytes (1PB = 1000 TB)

Then we've got Exabytes (1EB = 1000 PB)
Zettabytes (1ZB = 1000 EB)
and finally Yottabytes (1YB = 1000 ZB)

"Oh Yes, I have the biggest harddrive there is

Better than "I'm dim when I go online"

Anyway, the entire Finnish health records fits in 500 Petabytes, so by the time you need a 250 Yottabyte disk in your laptop, you'll be too dead to worry about it

To give you some sort of idea of scale of a Yottabyte, a Yottagram is the approximate weight of all the water in the Pacific Ocean, according to Berkely University. That puts in somewhere in the 'kin ell range.

640k actually.

Attributed to one Mr William H Gates III (although he denies he ever said it)

I remember getting my first hard drive (5 whole Megabytes!!!) and thinking there's no way I'll ever fill this fucker! On a 8088 processor with 512K of RAM...

I now have a silly-sized server sitting in my "pooter room" (6x4ft) until next week that is light-years apart from the aforementioned (Still working!) PC. (Think Diesel's motorised Bicycle to a current MotoGP machine).

Shame it has to go, but I just don't *need* that kind of power anymore, and a new daughter means I have to make a sensible decision (And that's this years Quota of sensible used up!)
