Default Editorial lies

Well, more like inaccuracies rather than downright lies...
Just read through Nik's editorial in the latest issue...
Now, far be it from me to pick up on a small indescretion, but Nik says that, after his crash on the latest of his matt black beasties, he's had to travel to a rally on a standard bike 'for the first time in about ten years'.
I don't know why Nik has chosen to say that, cos it doesn';t make him 'any less of a biker' by travelling by standard bike, but in the many events I've been to over the last few years, I have spotted the erstwhile editor on many, many standard bike, albeit mostly in his previous life working for the 'big corporation'.
Maybe the Mirror group kept him in a better lifestyle, but he travelled on a great variety of STANDARD motorcycles - Harleys, MZ, Suzukis, Yamahas, Hondas, V-Max - just pick up a copy of another mag when Nik was involved and you'd find pics of standard bikes and reports of how he rated them.
That in itself doesn't bother me - what I find odd is the fact that Nik has lied for no reason, other than maybe to try and convince himself that he is a 'real biker' perhaps?

I took is as bikes that he owns/rides rather than borrowed/test rides. Can't see the problem personally.

Not 'belittling' him - just found it a bit odd - maybe he was short of something to write about? Or wanted to forget about the standard stuff he rode while working for other mags?

Mind you, I guess it also depends on what you consider to be a 'modified' bike too...
Does an aftermarket pipe and matt black paint make a modified bike?
Or does it need to be diffrent frame eggsettera?

Depends on how you look at it...If you take a bike for a test ride...you cant really call it a ride..over the past two years I've "ridden" three scooters one of them 100cc Italian and the other two 125cc Chinese..but if you asked me I would say I have only ridden British or Japanese bikes and nothing as small as 125cc...although I started on a 98cc Frances Barnett...and passed my test on a Vespa...so I would have to modify that to since I passed my test and then add the words "on the road"...anyway he is an editor..they write stories..some fiction or downright lies improve stories..do you want something of interest or something that may be downright boring but word for word accurate...editorial comments are supposed to lighten the tone of an entertaining magazine...If you want to hear real 100%, highest quality, died in the wool lies..just ask me ....or any politition... anything.... John

Why not get on the soap box and rant about something a little more interesting to us all...I dont give a fig as to what Nik claims to have done, lots of people exaggerate or tell little fibs, but that's because we are ONLY human...

OK - totally not interested in what Niks said and whether its accurate or not, but you say yourself he said he had to ride a standard bike to a rally.... so maybe he rides standard bikes at other times, but uses a rat/custom whatever for going to rallies all the time?

Who cares anyway?
