Default Custom Bike magazine

No, not this one, but the one called Custom Bike.

Did anyone else used to buy it? I thought it was a great mag. Didn't last long though. As I remember it got taken over by one of the big publishing houses with the promise of going from strength to strength (was it EMAP?) then all of a sudden got shut down

It was, if I recall, always an EMAP publication. First issue was brilliant with XS650 engine rebuild article, went downhill from there and only lasted six issues. Much politics involved.

Are you sure Blue?

Memory aint what it used to be, but I seem to remember it going all glossy for the two months before it vanished, and I am sure it said it was because it had been taken over by one of the big boys. Thought it was independant to start with. Obviously I may be wrong

No, not entirely sure, but I know EMAP got its fingers burned with it. I know of a couple of owners who had their bikes featured in it and later found photos of their bikes being sold in cheap frames on markets. Perfectly legal from the point of copyright, but not exactly courteous.

Indeed, like Mister Chaz said, Karen Tait edited it after leaving BSH. It didn't last that long here (I vaguely remember that they were trying to launch a sort of internet magazine at the same time), although the original French Freeway and other magazines are still going.

It definitely started out as an EMAP one, but it got leased (or summat) to another mob, as far as I remember.
