Smile bloody pc scanners, wots the craik

Okay folks,my tale of pc stupidity starts here.

Got a scanner that I promptly put in spare room for a year.

Dug it out plugged/wired up.Put cd in drive thing and booted up/loaded ok.

Out of date software.Only good for six months then your s'pose to pay for it-outragous

Anyhew, scanned a couple of things and they turned out shyte

I like the picture quality, that's fine-but the writing sucks.

Do I need software to clear the words up?If so what? How do I get it for nowt???

Pretty please

Drew

The way I do it is with photoshop. Some scanners have word/ text recognition software but in my experience its poop!

Open image in Photoshop select the section of the page with the text and use sharpen tool, easiest and quickest way I have found. Hope this helps?

Most scanners have some kind of settings adjustment that allows alteration of things like the resolution and the colour depth of the scans and it might be worth experimenting with that. If you increase the resolution from say 200dpi to 300dpi or higher still, this will bring out more detail in whatever is scanned but will increase the amount of data that is created.

If the software you were supplied with runs out in 6 months then yes you were ripped off but you can get alternative software for nowt. If you want simple, easy to understand software go for something like PhotoPlus v6 which is available here Alternatively if you want to be able to do pretty much the same as Photoshop and can stand the long learning process go for The GIMP (yes I know its a dumb ass name) which is available at this web site. Watch out though it's very powerful and takes a fair bit of work to understand.

Time sensitive software should only begin to countdown after you install it, if not, shops would be unable to keep stock.

In your settings try changing the scan mode to picture and text, this might work.

You seem to have the scan set to a pretty low resolution..if you look at the picture you can see lines running across the page, this is usually a sign that you are set to draft scan..You might find that if you let windows recognise the scanner it will possibly find a driver for it..scanners usually have a choice of settings such as draft, picture, photo..or just resolution numbers that start as low as 300DPI up to 4800DPI the higher the number the sharper the copy and the longer to copy!..Hope that helps...I use a Lexmark all in one X5260..cost about 50 and prints, scans, copies, and faxes with no time limit on the software!..John
