Default Anne-ti Social

So, at the end of the first week of ownership comes a re-christening of the Harley;

As there is already an 'Auntie Social II', that name has been taken... but I have noticed and now confirmed an odd noise...

When you shut her down when warm, as the engine dies the carb makes an odd 'ehhhhhh' noise... bit like this lady in Little Britain...

So with that in mind, she is now Anne-ti Social.

Thumbs up

A trip over to the dealers today to pick up my surplus stuff (stock pipes, air filter etc) provided an opportunity to price up tuning for the winter...

Vance & Hines pipes will do nicely so no need to change them... 1200 conversion, fast road cam plus springs, flatslide carb and race coil, plus fitting, plus cost of bike so far will...

... give me a brand new all black tuned up 1200...

... cost less than a new and stock 1200 (which don't come in all black!).

...upset even more riders of other bikes (have had 3 sport bike riders this week chasing me, who were Really Not Pleased when they found out what it was that they couldn't get past on the bends 'cos they were riding like cissies)

Good job the Vance & Hines don't need to be changed, as I have nearly ground the head off the bolt on the front silencer (sorry - muffler) by getting it down on the roundabouts...

Default naming bikes

old chestnut this, never seen the point or appeal of naming bikes, theyre just bikes, mine are known to me as , the black kat, the shiny kat, the baby kat, the combo, the beesa, the trike etc. but ive never seen the point of naming any of them.
and if you do see the point of naming it, what on earth makes you think anyone else is interested? perhaps you need to name it in order to differentiate it from all the other harleys with aftermarket pipes, carbs, ignition, tassled seats, high bars etc, but thats the only reason i can think of and even that doesnt really make any sense to me!!

Well i agree with him, and i don't often, i don't believe it's a harley issue at all, just that harley riders do this stupid fkin thing more than most, believing their bike has a special character and needs a name. I've had the same harley 14 years now, an it's still just me harley, me bike. And yours is a sportster. Call it what you like, nobody gives a flying fuck its a black harley, a black sportster to everybody else.
Ain't like it's shown certain traits and you're naming it accordingly, you were coming up with names before you even had the bastard thing.
I'd call it camless, cos you keep saying you're gonna stick a cam in it, ain't you figured out yet it's got four bastard cams, it won't run right unlesss you do 'em all y'know...

Exactly why the name.

No-one likes them. Not even Harley riders.

[BIKE NAMING MODE=off]

So 'Just Another Faceless Harley' it is then.

And if no-one is interested, how come this thread hasn't dropped like a stone and out of sight?

So, to continue some interest - is Anne (Little Britain) a transvestite?

Many and varied are the female characters played by Matt Lucas and David Walliams, (Vicky Pollard, Marjorie @ Fat Fighters, Bubbles De Vere etc) and indeed there are two explicitly tranvestite characters (Emily and Florence) running throughout all three series.

But is the 'Anne' character supposed to be a woman, or is part of her condition transvestitism?

Anyone still here? OK, turning the lights out as I leave...

i dont mind em, whatever floats yer boat. i certainly dont see the appeal of them especially with all the hype round the brand name at the mo, if i were honest, i think i would feel annoyed and hard done by if i bought a bike that was touted as the original and best, and then had to spend perhaps 10% of its value again on it in order to make it perform like all the bikes it was supposedly better than, but thats just my oppinion, i would probably, in fact certainly find room in my shed for a wla or wlc45 but thats probably all i would have, and even those are now priced waaaay over their value cos of the name on the tank.
its the naming thing i cant get my head round? its a bike ffs, not a dog, i really cant see the point, but if you must, then go ahead, but why feel the need to post its pic and stuff on here, yeh, well done, you got a harley, and are setting about doing what every single other harley on the road seems to have done to it!! i suppose i just find it odd, because im on the outside of the world of harley looking in, but then again, im sure people within the world of morris dancing think THEY are normal and everyone else is odd

Well i've ridden harleys for 15/16 years, and never felt hard done by.
Cos i've never bought one.
And i don't steal bikes.
I bought a GS750 for 340, and built a grett chop out of it.
Wanted a Harley, cos all me mates had 'em, and they seemed alright, so i flogged the chop, bought a new engine and box, then spent all me wages that winter building a harley chop.
Got fed up of that, so swapped it for a stock FXR, and set about that.
So my soul has never been sold to The Motor Company by signing on the dotted line.
If you want one, you'll get one.
If you don't, don't tell us how crap they are.
NOT aimed at you Jr, just a general swipe at all the harley 'experts'.

i never accosted anyone. i didnt start this thread with a general, "hey harley owners, your bikes suck" type rant. but if you post"heres my stock harley, now im gonna customize it using my cheque book and the screaming eagle(tm) catalogue after giving it a name that only i find funny", then you gotta expect a sizable quantity of piss taking. as ive said, ive nowt against the bikes, not my cup of tea mind, but if it floats your boat, then go for it. a mate of mine makes a good livfing building and fixing and selling bits for em, yet it dont stop me going round his shop. no, what i dislike is all the hype, i actually KNOW a guy with "if it aint harley it aint ****" on a poster on his wall, i resist the urge to point out the actual literal meaning of this statement cos im waiting for him to get it!! its the balloney lifestyle crap that goes with it all that i cant figure out, the way that someone thinks that by buying 2 grands worth of bits out of a catalogue makes it a custom, and that hanging tassles fromthe bars makes the m61 into route 66. got to admit a sneaky admiration for the firm and its marketing policys though. cos they really do manage to get people to part with some sizeable chunks of wedge for something that if it had honda written on the tank, they wouldnt touch. its all this live to ride tat and bling i cant cope with. i like customs, ive owned a few and built some of them myself, but a set of loud pipes and a hypercharger might make you feel like youre living the dream, where in reality youre just buying porsches for men in suits!!

Good analogy.
I'm gonna use that when i'm on at 'em.
It's when someone who you know has just popped theirself into the little world of harley-people after their cbt fast track bike test is done and out the way, starts sprouting a pony tail that you know they're in too deep in fantasy world.
Yes, i know there's pics of me elsewhere on here with one, mainly before i had a harley, and it hardly sprouted and was nurtered to complete my image, it was down to me arse for fuck's sake...

I had to get shot of mine cos of the amount it was costing me and i needed dosh....not being funny but wtf is wrong with sportsters.? granted I didn't mod mine it was already done by someone who clearly knew what he was doing.. min was known to me (an d me only) as the beast...all my bikes are known to m e as the beast cost half the time they look tatty or ratty and get treated like sh1te only a working beast could cope with that amount of work.#

names - don't mind either way, do think it's a bit naff to make the name a 'feature' of the paint job, usuually see that as an ad for a custom shops new line in frames or suchlike. however , if the name was subtly stamped or as I want for my chop etched into a bit of chrome it adds to that " oo there's another thing" factor...
