Question Silver on black number plates and speed cameras

I've now heard on a couple of occasions that silver on black number plates
don't show up on speed cameras. Not willing to be the one to put this to
the test I wondered if anyone could shed some light on this.
Have you or do you know anyone who has been done by camera using the
aformentioned style plate.
No.... I haven't been flashed, it's just pure curiosity.

Don't know about the camera thing but surely unless you're car/bike is older that 1973 the old bill will pull you for the plate anyways.

You know what? These cameras are pretty hot. At least the static ones are anwyay. Mate of mine got flashed and partly being tricky, partly out of interest went to the local gatso hq to view the photos which you are quite entitled to do.

And it was amazingly clear. Down to clearly being able to read the small brand name tag on his rucksack.

Hence why it's always surprised me that there is so much fuss nowadays regarding running std plates. The only thing I can think is that maybe these ere new fangled number plate recognition jobbies may be different?

Maybe there's something on the plod site about it? Hmm.

As far as I have read it , the GATSO cameras use a high 'ish resolution for pics as they only click on offenders, where as the ANPR will record details of all No plates that pass for recognition , data comparrison and offence recognition. Therefore the amount of data if in High res would cause band width problems with the databases , so resolution on bassic ANPR will be low.

IMHO

You aint wrong there mate. I go from not wanting to take it all in for fear of becoming a very irate person and finding out as much as I can so I know what I'm dealing with.

Default Camera's

If you think you have a magic way to beat the cameras, just take a picture with your own camera, if you can see the number plate so can they..Now with todays technology we should be able to fit a box with four revolving number plates like the old Bond Aston Martin easily enough and push a switch to put the correct number up when you have stopped or are pulled..That would beat the cameras...But I can't be bothered...Lazy old git. John, me old mucker, streetfighters have had front mount controlled, flip up plate devices for years. Not hard to do. I think they had to pull the ad from Streetfighters magazine though. I recall some controversy over an article? ... vaguely

Jeez - anybody'd think you'd been living in Wales or something

how about one of those slave flash guns mounted near the number plate, so when the gatso flashes it flashes back at, wonder if that would work?

Sorry don't know what came over me..forgot my place for a moment then, won't let it happen again.. John

suppose it was a bit of hi tech string attached to a hinged plate with a different no underneath

According to Gordon Ramsey, when appearing on Top Gear, some Gatso warriors wrapped the gatso in cling film several times.

From the outside when the service bods come to look as to why the photos aren't coming out very well, the camera looks ok. but the cling film obliterates the number plate quite effectively! Allegedly! also filling up the inside of the Gatso with expanding foam is a bit of a wheeze as well. and the Gatso is truly fekked then!

by the same token if one was to wrap cling flim around the number plate, it should still be readable, but when the gatso goes off the flash should reflect of the uneven cling flim surface? just a thought!

Thumbs up pepipo!

don't believe the hype.... on GATSOS, scameras etc.

check out pepipo, i've found it very , very useful.

hadn't realised just how quick we've given up our 'rights' when faced with these fucking things....they are there to make money, any bollocks about 'speed cameras ' is just that:bollocks!

I got flashed, supposedly doing 61 in a 50, coming off a roundabout....riding a guzzi? i like to think i'm nimble on the beast, but that would be some feat....i'm unsuprisingly fighting it.

so, different plates? check out pepipo.

Thats the first sensible comment i've heard on this subject.
There's more sticky stuff to stick over your plate, lights to flash back at the camera, special anti filmable numbers, infringinging human rights and guilty till proven innocent theories...
It's all bollocks.
If the camera clocks you speeding, you're nicked sunshine.

Thumbs down tain't necessarily so....

y'can't just give in to the feckers...

dead serious about this: just cos yer flashed don't mean yer nicked...unless y'give in!

the case has to be PROVED, unless y'cave in and say, oh, ok then do me up like a kipper. oh, and by the way, here's me hard earned.

look at pepipo and other sites and you can read fer yerself theres lots of cases where the scameras, get it/got it wrong.

bikers are independent, free thinking, so don't lets fall fer the feckin hype.

Cling film and all those sprays DO NOT WORK, complete waste of time, the only ways to avoid getting a ticket from a gatso (not fighting - getting) are:
1 no number plate for it to read
2 bike not regged to you (but make sure the bloke you got it off dont know your name)
3 flip up plate, uses an old style choke lever and cable to flip the bottom half against the top.

And dont say drive within the limit cos that dont work, I set one off on Brixton hill nearly everyday, it faces down and I'm going up, if you do 50 it sets it off, and watching the drivers slam their brakes on even if they are doing 20 is slightly amusing.

strangely enough most coppers aren't thick, they aren't any cleverer than us either. If you make a flip up number plate it would have to have two things. First the activation would have to be something that YOU would not spot if you were looking for it. and second you would need a made up number plate "from your local mate at the bike shop" to go upside down on the other side that could not be spotted as a flip up from the camera. otherwise they would simply watch for you on that stretch of road and have you. in the old days before camers and points we had radar and fines, it used to cost me a fortune until I got a radar detector, I used to get caught at least once a month, After the detector I never got caught again. They work out how to catch you and someone else works out have to avoid getting caught..Part of life ennit! John

why not just test it with a digital camera...work out the optimum distance from the road that you need to be with your cam and hoon past.....I reckon they can capture the plates. it's not about the res, more about the saturation.

the contrast should be higher on a silver/blake plate than it is yellow/black....unless the relection from the silver actually distorts the image because too much light is being fed back into the ccd?!
