We have just done this on another forum with a Land Rover. We sold tickets for a tenner a piece, and raised 2 grand for a bird sanctaury that one of the members runs.

What would be good would be if we set somewhere central and made a couple of weekends out of it, everyone could turn up and donate their skills and would be a good social event as well.

Perhaps we could do it for NABD or MAG or something similar. How about build a chop from donated parts, sell tickets and donate the proceeds. We all get to have a few good weekends, do something for a good cause, and at the end someone ends up with a chop for a tenner

What does everyone think?

Well i've got a frame or two lying around which i would happily donate both of them with log books which are early enough not to require indicators or quiet exhausts. I've got an engine which is a z550 that would fit as well but it does need a rebuild as its been standing a while.

So Blackjack, if your looking in, would you be prepared to get involved in this?

Personal feelings are this shouldnt be restricted to those who have a host of experience in building bikes, but needs to have someone in some sort of control who has done building stuff before. Those without mechanical expertise could be involved in design, colour schemes, promoting it etc. Some one with graphics skills could come up with an idea or two of a design and we could vote on which we prefer........think you get the picture.

With the Landie we had 4 weekends if I remember right. We had spannerers, welders, painters.....................and a whole host of other essential members who could print tickets, make food, brew a cuppa, keep the cd's playing etc.

So do we want to do this, I for one would willingly pay a tenner for a ticket for the chance of winning a bike, and if Nik could run a feature in the mag it would be good publicity.

I think if this is going to happen even before bits are donated we need a plan, who we are going to raise funds for, what sort of sum we want to raise, how many tickets to sell, style of bike etc...............well a few ideas and a few polls no doubt. Feel free to come up with alternative ideas, and oh yeah, we need someone who everyone can get on with and has a bit of spare time to oversee and pull things together. Any volunteers.

OK I am assuming folks want to go ahead with this, if not then fair enough, just a few positive feedbacks make it a possibility

Well....

First off let me say this. I am **** at organising things.

That said, I do have a reasonably well equipped workshop. I suppose it would be possible to actually build it there.

It's about 1500 sq feet if you drag all the bikes out, so thatere a reasonable amount of room and that means that you're not dependent on the weather.

There'd be rules, and they'd be serious rules (I'm supposed to earn a living with this stuff, so if I say "Don't touch" you don't touch!!!") and one of those is that there isn't any alcohol (or anything else!) in the shop.

Probably a couple of other things too. Like if you bandsaw your hand off then that is really your own fault and not mine.

But, given all that, then in principle I don't see a problem. I've worked on largish projects before and have a bit of experience at delegating jobs, etc. to get this sort of thing done to a deadline.

So that's a conditional yes.

Thanks mate, thats the pro on board then. Dont worry about the organisational skills, thats where someone else comes in. Like Heather said, I think a "project manager" is required. Someone folks can get on with and respect. Now I have met Yoda, seems a decent bloke, a lot of you know him......and no disrespect to you mate, but you probably wont be doing engineering work on this, so how would you fancy trying to organise something? If anyone else wants to volunteer then feel free, just Yoda seems like someone that most people know and can get on with. The only problem we had with the Landie project was not having someone to organise what was happening when.

Anyway, I am just sowng seeds, this aint going to be my baby at all, I think this should be a group effort.

I think someone should start a thread on the general chat bit and get it stickied, or sticky the post I put up at the weekend, then whoever wants to get involved can get things rolling.

I realy hope this happens as it will be a good earner for someone and a good article for the mag.....................plus the lucky bugger who ends up with a bike (or trike I suppose)

organising -Me (have you seen the state of my computer desk???????)

but Yes i will give it a go - I would need an overview of what needs to be organised

and yes you are right engineering and building is not my strongest point i can tighten nuts and point and say 'there that metally bit there - its not working'

I have spare back light

I am also happy to do a full build report on Bikerlifestyle - would need someone to write cuz i dont have much of a clue when it comes to engineering, and plenty of build pics as well

NABD is a worthy cause - you never know when you will need them

What sort of stuff are you looking to incorporate into the build, only a friend and nyself have been toying with some ideas to go on a custom bike and this maybe the time to bring them out into the open.
This is all electrical related.

So what have we got so far?

This sound about right?

Skank the bits off people.

Some sort of a crew turns up at my workshop.

Build something and raffle it off with the proceeds going to NABD.

Did I miss anything?

get a list of bits needed sorted, as most of the time I dont know what I have spare, but when asked for a bit I tend to either know where it is or will go look for it, seems to work better for me that way

dont know if I got much of use, but will do whatever I can

if its at Blackjacks then depending on when it is I would try to be there to help in anyway?? is only about 2 hours from me
