yes, i know that you posted it as not factually correct, why then have a pop at the govt then, if you didnt believe it to be true yourself, my comments though were aimed at the responses that seemed to just agree with the story without question cos it pressed all their buttons.

Oh I am sorry, for a moment I forgot what a wonderful job they're doing for
all the law abiding, hard working, English people. Slap my wrist.

I'll claim diplomatic immunity.

I mentioned this story to a tame plod yesterday and he said that no copper would give an on the spot fine for a blown bulb unless the vehicle had several other faults, or if the driver had a serious attitude problem. (Yes, I know you said it was a civvi who allegedly stopped this person).

He said most officers, whether plod or civvi, would just advise the driver to get it fixed, unless it was something which was dangerous, in which case they'd impound the vehicle.

I dare say there is some truth in what happened but it has been distorted somewhat to make a good story. I wonder just how far from the truth it is though and how long before it's reality.
Personally I fear the worst.

I have to say that with the current trend of the government farming all the jobs off to agencies this story is entirely possible. I have seen the VOSA boys pulling every single bike and scoot riding down the Londo embankment.

The fact is the old Bill, love em or hate them are needed. This kind of bull**** actually dilutes their role s and responsibilities and doesn't hlp them focus on real crime cos there is too much fucking paperwork with that.

A mate of mine has just left SO19 (whatwas) to join the RPS cos he's sick of the bull **** attitude. You can nick a bloke bang to rights for smackin a burglar in his house but you can't hold a crack dealer by the throat to stop him swallowing his gear... and there's fuck all you can do once he's swallowed.

Specials, community orificers, vosa, council traffic wardens, clamper - wankers the fucking lot of them.
