Default Emptying the crap

What's the best way of getting rid of all the crap that's built up in my fuel tank? It sounds like there's loads of rust, etc. inside it.

Handful of nuts in the tank, wrap it in a couple of towels or other padding and chuck it in the tumble dryer for an hour or 2 (on the coolest setting o' course)!Remove the nuts and flush it with kero til it comes out clean.

Or so I've heard.....

dont bother with nuts. use a length of small chain. its easier to hook out afterwards and as effective as nuts and bolts. remove any fuel gauge sender first, you might even want to take the tap off and swill it out with a hose pipe to clear any loose crap. afterwards, sealing it with kreem or petseal is a good idea. it is also worth checking that any small pipe from the fuel filler recess(if its a recessed one) needs to be clear. if this gets blocked, the recess fills with water when it rains, and when you open the tank cap, the water runs into the tank and then rusts it from inside.

Will we be doing that with my tank uncle grav? Or are we hoping the crap has already gone out of it into my carbs?

i advocate forgetting about your nuts, shaking things in chain, uncovering the bottom access and using kreem, and finally preventing a build up of crap by poking your little drain hole clear.
but im really worried about grav agreeing with me, does he realise im talking about motorbikes, not a friday night in scouseland????

You remember that small, English speaking, Japanese bloke?

Bung him in the tank and tell him he's not coming out until it's spotless.
