I tend to work in black and white first which sets the rouh tonal values and contrast extremes between highlights and shadows, then add in colour washes and work from there really.

I tend to think somethings done, but when youve been staring at the same thing for 10 hours you cant see it properly if that makes sense. I tend to leave it overnight and if I come back to it the next day with `fresh eyes` and it still looks good then I know its right. Sounds weird but sometimes your interpretation of it goes all screwed up as your so used to seeing it for hours.

Nother usefull tip is to step right back from it several feet regularly as your perspective when close can give a false look to things too. Know it sounds odd but it works.

That is common, but you have to draw the line some where other wise as PitStop said you can over work it and lose more than you gain.

i think it looks wicked, i havnt tackled faces yet, it is going to be a challenge though i know.

there is one thing i did notice by your photos...it doesnt look like you scuffed the surface before painting?
being silver its metallic and laquered so it needs scuffing for adhesion(cant spell..lol)
either a fine scotchbright pad or some 1200 grit wet n dry..or itll peel back...
what paint you using?

using water based acrylic with cellulose laquer over, always up for advise though as I am new to this game and thoroughly enjoying it. Friend from work wants me to do a skull theme on an old crash helmet which is being scuffed for the base coat to stick to ( can't spell adhere either )
