Default exhaust headache.

hi all. gotta old gs550 on the go, trying hard to do it as cheaply as i can of course, dont want it fancy but want it nice. now its coming on but i am at a loss for an exhaust, fitment, one off set of pipes. got old ones but they are shot really. problem is the frame is so low, a custom or standard is a no no. is there a cheap way of making one or having one made?. got most tools i need but no pipe bender im afraid!!! p.s . two downpipes are good but the other two tatty, hoping to salvage something. cheers , mick.

you can buy bends and tack them then weld them

buy prebent sections, weld together

I made mine and if I can do it then anyone can LOL

couple of pics during build and mockup, cheapy carbon can that was damaged, cut down and put back together, think the whole system cost me about 70-80

I let the bends I could afford and buy dictate what I could build

from memory 7 90 degree bends,2 or 3 45 degree bends all 1.5" and 2 90 degree 2" bends

gently folded back the ends to give the top hat rim bit to seal into the exhaust port, working round with mole grips and finishing off with a bit of thick walled tube split into 2, clamped around it and tapped with a hammer

I'm making up an exhaust for the RXS100 2 stoke... I'm more worried about my welding (new mig welder) rather then making it up

cheers, have seen a couple of near identical systems in magazines etc, makes me smile

especially when they say theres 60 bits of tube in there, it took weeks to build, cost a fortune

Whadda ya call cheap?

I've got a GS550.

I can bend mild steel exhaust pipe.

Looking at some of the pics in this thread, I'm reminded that I can make collectors too.

he can indeed make collecters, they arrive well packed, well made and in good time too

theres a special pixie that works in Bristol, clever system, you post beer vouchers to him, and back comes magicly formed bits of metal

and look rather similar, if not identical LOL to the one in my system above

I have since learnt to make my own, but at the time didnt know how, I had an attempt and it resembled a regurgitated dogs dinner, so called in the professionals
