Default Rick Parfitt

STATUS Quo rocker Rick Parfitt was told yesterday he may have throat cancer — after smoking 50 a day for years.

Docs found a growth on his vocal cords which they fear could be malignant. Rick, 57, will undergo exploratory surgery next week.

The band immediately cancelled their sell-out UK tour — and fans were told they would get their money back.

Band manager Simon Porter said: “Rick saw a consultant in Plymouth who has expressed concern with a growth in his larynx. It requires urgent investigation.

“While the band obviously regret having to disappoint fans, they are thankful for their understanding at this difficult time.”

Rick saw a specialist after suffering chest and throat pain.

never bought their records - but seen em live 3 times at sunderland empire - they are the ultimate live band - like the beermonsters - audience interaction - having a laugh - the works - this is sad

I could be wrong - but couldn't the growth on his vocal chords be from singing? Elton John had something similar......

I know one year when I saw quo he wasn't allowed to speak or sing cos he had vocal chord problems, must have been 2000 or 2001 ish

so of course rossi took the piss out of him big time cos he couldn't answer back

if you ever get the chance go n see them - they are brilliant live

50 fags a day for 40 years, what do you expect really???It can't have been a huge surprise even though it's a shame and no one deserves that.

Although it is sad, it has to be said that once he had recovered from his triple bypass a few years ago he felt so well that he promptly resumed smoking, drinking and snorting as if nothing had happened! Maybe a touch of deja vue from another 'celebrity' who died recently after screwing up a second chance at life! Would be a pity though, I would miss our chats whenever they play at my venue, they are both genuinely nice guys!
