Default Any one know about Dropsy in Fish?

I've got a fish pond and hoiked out a small carp with dropsy. I've put it in a quarantine bucket, in fresh rainwater. Changed that every day. I read somewhere that a small amount of salt in the water acts as a antisceptic, so I added 1/2 a teaspoon to two gallons in the bucket. Second day I noticed a worm in the bottom of the bucket which I segretated from the fish. I can only assume this was in the fish and it was passed out through the intestines as some sort of parasite/tape worm. I dropped the worm in a small amount of salt water which killed it. It seems that once the fish has signs of Dropsy, (blows up and looks like a pinecone) it's curtains, has anyone know for a fish to survive? Otherwise I will have to euthanaise it, and I don't particularly want to do that....

Ho hum! The fish has gone to the Big Fish Pond in the sky!

It jumping out of my hand when transferring it from the holding bucket to the quarantine bucket didn't help. It just floated upside down, then had a spasm trying to right itself, then floated upside down again. It kept doing this so I dropped the poor bugger in a little water with a bit of oil of cloves and it was all over within a minute.
