Default heard of this before?

i ordered some bit's for the bike from the state's on monday. i gave my debit card details and recieved an email thanking me and that my order would be processed and shipped to me. checking my emails today i have recieved word from them saying that for first time international customers they require a photo id of me plus either a jpeg picture of the front and back of my debit card or a fax. i have never been asked this before and found it odd, any ideas please?

This USA site says in the FAQ, " International customers will be asked to submit a photocopy of their credit card along with a copy of a photo ID. In addition, large orders from first-time customers may require you to send us a bank transfer in lieu of paying by credit card. Again, this is to protect us from rampant International credit card fraud, for which there is little or no recourse."

pelican parts

So it looks ok if that's any help? I can't see how it could be risky sending a photocopy and a pic if they already have your card number as that's the bit scammers want.

I've ordered stuff from the states (using both debit and credit cards) and they've never asked for extra proof of ID/card ownership.

sounds dodgy to me - try emailing them back asking them why they need this info - also ring your bank and ask them - if it's a scam they might know about it - local trading standards or police fraud squad should be able to help too

when in doubt - do nowt

golly you lot got in quick...anyway - how does a photo of yourself prevent credit card fraud? maybe proves you're white male for example, but can't see any other good reason

Just seen this and I cannot think of any possible legitimate reason for their request.

If they had any doubts about the reality of your card they could easily take the payment and confirm it before dispatching the goods.

Had the same thing when i had my Vmax, they asked for the exact same thing, found somebody else also in the states doing the same parts, all they asked for was the usual information, took about a week or so to get the bits shipped over.

Look for some one else mate

fuck off!! oh, and he's emailed me back saying he knows it's a strange request but due to being defrauded in the past they require the aformentioned id. he does go on to say however that i can purchase the stuff with a pay pal account. anyway. i went back to my friends at cruisercustomizing and they will have the part i require in stock on the 10th of feb so bollox to him!!

I've bought bits from different sellers in USA before and have been asked for this by one of them - They are a long established dealership and after talking to them on the phone (5p a minute) I went ahead and everything was O.K.

It might be worth giving them a call.

Regards

Tell em to feck orff.
They can get authorisation from the card when you supply them the number and security pin off the back. Then the cash is theirs. Photos Cannot provide any security whatsoever in this context. After all a scammer can produce fraudulant pics and images of credit cards.

Call them and ask em if they want your business or not. If not stuff em and go elsewhere!

I've shopped internationally for over 5 years and never.... I repeat... NEVER had this treatment.
