Ok, bit of a genralisation but when I bought it, thats how I felt after reading it. For someone who's a bit of a newby it was a bit big dollar customs and show bikes. Say what you like/ dont like about these mags or don't be surprised if they change. If cash was plentiful then maybe I'd get both but as I said 100% is more 'grass roots' if thats the right phrase. the how to pages are the first I read.

funny how when i started a thread about BSH a few months ago it was deleted, and i got a PM about advertising the competition.!!

See, i dont think the mags are in competition with each other, peeps either tend to buy both, like we do, or cant be arsed.

. .. . so when I was poor i could buy the magazine, ergo, so now i am getting poor again will I be allowed to again??

Ok, just to throw my 10 pence worth in.
BACK STREET Heroes implies to me that the featured bikes would have been built in some dodgy back alley using blue prints scrawled on the back of beer mats in some equally dodgy back street pub. Constructed in a leaky old shed using the last in modern tech tooling and plenty of sleepless nights and scraped knuckles. These days, there is more expendable income so it was obvious that made to order parts would become the norm for the filthy rich, easily viewed and obtainable from the likes of Easyrider magazine and The Internet. There is still some homemade stuff out there, but the times such as the 70's/80's are well and truely over. I like the look of the newest style of overly long bars, swooping goose necked frames, curly pipes etc but know full well they're just bolt on/made to order parts and if you've got the dosh, why not splash it out? (I personally would'nt do it, too tight me). And I dont vote for them at shows.
Instead of just bemoaning the lack of differant engine choices and styling, 'Oh, theyre just showing Harleys again', get off yer arses and trot out to the shed and put some hours in......who knows, Blue might spot yer pride and joy and happen to have her camera with her.

But yes, I agree the mag has gone up market with the featured bikes, because of the lack of home made.

And no, I dont buy the mag anymore either. None of them in fact.

The comments about not home built bikes etc I find a bit odd, where do people think most of the builders who feature started out?
Yep some of them have done good and run a business, good luck to them
The builder that built charlie boormans chop, he was hardly state of the art cnc, plasma cutter type, vic jefford aint no millionare but builts outstanding bikes with the knowledge and skill he has, there also plenty of home built bikes that Ive seen in there.
People progress and if we where all doing the same as what we did in the 80's well it would be a bit stale by now ( and Id be a skinhead on a scooter)

Maybe the lack of Back Street heroes is why the name changed a number of years back to BSH on the front cover.

The mag has improved in my oppinion but maybe thats because the trend is for simpler bikes, our own 100% has a bike that I would refer to as a show barge in the new ssue, Big pretty bling with a gutless 500 brit engine. Nice model though looks legal too.

.
No, it's 'cause it's shorter. And because, after 25 years, we can hardly go changing it now. Plus if we did, The Horse would have to go and nick a byline off another magazine...

I think after 25 years (well done on that by the way) it would be just the right time to put it back.

Used to get both, I'm not saying bsh don't have its charms, it was good enough for me to fork out for 12 issues, maybe I'll try it again sometime, its good to have variety. On a budgett the foucus has to be getting the damn thing running ok first, then looking ok, the tecky stuff in 100% suits skinflints like me better. On the pro vs joe front, well I would go to one if I could, but the bike has to run to get to the shop, If it runs then it dont really need to get to the shop. The 70's aint gone from my shed cos old bikes is still cheap and for my peneth worth the rock music was better the bikes was simpler. I'll feck off to my back ally shed and spark up the stick welder, mmaybe fix the hosedrawn mower

blue's right, there's always 'proper' builds in there. A lot of v-twins are there cos that is the motor of choice at the moment. However, more and more different motorrs are starting to appear again. BSH kick started something 25yrs ago and, although not alway perfect (you try being perfect, lol),it is still a leader in it's field and will still be here 25yrs from now.

Don't believe you were old enough to go to the newsagents on your own when BSH was first published, Rob.
