I am disgusted, that's no way to treat the men who helped keep our troops in weapons and our country fed during times of war.

Thats bad news...but hardly surprising...the troops are always told how much they are needed when they are fighting abroad, but never welcome home when the war is over, also in this case the veterens would not dring as much as football supporters...today it is all about a few extra quid. The veterens should demand interest on their deposits and say they will take the hotel owners to court for breach of contract and demand compensation, this will cost the hotel more than the extra they will make from the football supporters...John

Here's what I sent

Dear Sir / Madam
I respectfully suggest that you reconsider your stance on the 20 Veterens who had booked rooms for the last week in August...Having accepted their deposits you leave yoursef open for a demand of full return of deposits and interest for the time you held that money...You also leave yourself open the civil charges of breach of contract which would certainly be found for the plaintives, and would cost you far more than the extra profit you may make from bar sales to twenty football supporters...Yours faithfully,...John Hopkins

Appalled by the recent news that you have chosen the more "profitable" football fans over and above our War Veterans that have had rooms booked since Feb07. We have now instructed and requested that all 400 of our employees and their families/friends not use your group of Hotels for any social or business trips.

Enjoy your "profit" while it lasts!

The old saying (passing the buck) springs to mind
Why did they not say that when asked to comment?

Cos they had to try to cover their backs, Kingo.

I e-mailed the Liverpool Echo last night and they hate it when a business or organisation besmirches the city. I asked them to investigate the matter and see what could be done for the Veterans.

hehehehe - Just got a reply from said Hotel -

Dear Mr Watts, How premature of you

I am writing to you following your recent email concerning a recent report you have read in the Scarborough Evening News.

This reporter has obviously not fully investigated their story before printing.

I personally set-up the Reunion Package for Britannia Hotels many years ago and Britannia Hotels have as a company had the pleasure of hosting Reunions for numbers in excess of 30,000 guests over the years.

You may not be aware but the actual and factual situation is that we at The Adelphi never have had a booking for War Veterans , Never had a deposit for them and after The Scarborough Evening News have now had the time to fully investigate this, you will be able to read the retraction of this story and an apology.

At no time did we have a booking for War Veterans, at no time did we have deposits from War Veterans and this is purely a miscommunication between two travel agents that had not involved The Adelphi.

You may wish to also read today's Scarborough Evening News which has an update on the situation which clearly points the blame away from The Adelphi

I look forward to your reply, after you have had time to read the apology which is being printed this evening
