If you dont wanna pinch em from filling station, you can pick up boxes of plastic and latex gloves from beauty wholesalers.
I'm allergic to latex, but i might give it a try wiht some of the plastic ones!

Next time you go to the supermarket. Keep the bags. Put yer thermal socks on then the bags over the socks. Voila (as they say in wales ) wind and waterproof . Also it works like the plastic gloves retaining the warmth.

To keep yer core temperature up (as long as yer body's nice and warm yer extremities shouldn't get too cold) try an ice-hockey jersey with a cellular construction.Same theory as a string vest, the holes hold warm air.
I was out on the bike today, the wind chill is below freezing, but with the hockey jersey under my textile jacket I was plenty warm.Mebbe a bit TOO warm.......

Ha! Can tell you only wear MX boots on the road
Believe me, MX boots can get colder than anything in the right area. You want layers on top or anything (Yep, im into the outdoors aswell as some well know). Forget thick big layers, get loads of thin ones so it traps air and then you add a wind proof layer over the top. Being cold mostly comes from wind chill factor. Keep the wind off and the rest is easy. Not that anyone well listen

seems like I've been doing it all wrong. I wear 3 x thermal vests under me jacket, 2 x pairs thermal leggins under gortex trousers. thermal socks and winter gloves.

So I need to get ice hockey jumper, MX boots (are these power ranger things), and tesco carrier bags

Don't knock the hockey jersey 'til you've tried it,
Same goes for the carrier bags, just make sure they ain't the kid/idiot friendly type with air holes in 'em.......
BTW,MX boots ain't power ranger stuff, they're the big hefty loadsa buckles Moto-Cross (hence MX) boots.

Had a pair of MX boots, they were okay, nothing special.I find a pair of British Army hi-leg combat boots are as warm, more comfortable and easier to walk in.Each to his own,s'pose.
BTW,Sealskinz waterproof sox are a damn good investment.

To be honest, all MX boots are good for is protection. They aint very weather proof and as you said Dougie, those Sealskinz are a great investment of any boot that doesnt have a waterproof lining.
Its just a thought and i dont know as ive never really tried them but has anyone tried hiking boots with Goretex linings for riding a bike on a regular basis?

Dougie, probably useless info but Meindl (**** hot hiking boot manufacturer) make what the call an army boot. It's Goretex lined and goes above your ankle. I think some of the army are now using them.
http://www.outdoorworldltd.co.uk/pro...r=catEQUALS033
There ya go, a good recomendation for anyone wanting well made boots (Ive had Meindl boots for climbing etc.).
