Default riding out and about

having done lots of solo riding over the last few months
and a couple with just a few friends
it was odd going on a ride with 16 other bikes last weekend
and not sure the group rides hold the same buzz now

so what does it for you

solo runs
runs with friends
grouop rides
mega rides ( easter egg/toy runs/ demos etc)
all over above

I really enjoy ridin' on my own, settin' my own pace, bimblin' along as I want. I was gonna do the trip to Hel an' back on my own originaly. That said, havin' Peter's company on the trip was excellent. I don't often ride with other folks but it is good when you get to the end an' you can sit an' chat about the journey over a beer or two.

Prefer the solo runs as too often in the past group runs turned into races.........

Depends on the mood and the company, Riding with Slob and another mate Doodie was always fun, and I love a small group heading for rallies, but mostly I like to ride alone, it clears the mind.

there's something to be said about riding with a group of people you ride with often, know your style and you theirs etc. Had some fantastic ride outs with close mates i been riding with for years and years.

Depends,i like a small group of mates but hate it when you are with some prat who is all over the road,on and off the brakes for no sane reason and seems to be always close to falling off.

I generally like to go out just with just one other person - got a mate who's ace to ride out with, I'll even ride pillion with him cos I know exactly what he's going to do and when. More than a few is a pain, and the wrong people is annoying as when I can see the police helicopter above I am not about to ride at 90 to keep up with them!!!!

Most fun for me is on my own with no idea where I'm going to go. Just head off in a direction and see where it takes me.

Not saying don't like riding with others but its a little more restrictive especially if there is a speed disparity.

I'd have thought the restriction would be having a bike that's actually on the road

I will always remember the other year, when 6 or 7 of us from ratbike.org met up in redbourn and rode to a steam rally!! The looks on peoples faces and we popped and farted past on a collection of manky rats was excellent

I find it depends on the bike I'm riding...my current bike likes 50mph with a maximum of 60mph this means someone with a bike that struggles to keep down at 50mph is going to be held back and really want to open it up a bit...I've been on both sides of this, so given a really good bike I don't mind how many people I ride with...but given a rat bike like mine, I'm ok with one or two..as long as there aren't any records to break...Just going for a ride solo is also great as long as it's somewhere new and not the same boring day to day trip to work..and I do miss the days when we could stop at the pub every so often for a pint.. Used to ride with club but took all day to get anywhere for various reasons. These days, if you want to come with me you best be quick on the gas, dont have the time to faf around waiting. In the jams, keep the exhaust loud and watch 'em part as you blat on thru. If you're on a trike, tuff. You get left behind. Allowances are made for inexperienced riders but not for long.
Otherwise, usually go out on my own or with a few good men, seasoned riders who know the score and can crack on.
