Default Bike parking charges for Matlock Bath

Derbyshire Council are planning on street parking charges for bikes in Matlock Bath. Link below is to a petition on their website. 7500 signatures would bind them to reconsider proposal.

why not just stop going, if the council dont want bikes there, then fuck em! when the place is dying on its arse, i thought the prospect of a few hundred bikers in town might be a good thing of a weekend. better still, go to another place near enough for them to see what they are missing.

If they get away with bike parking charges in one place it won't be long before we have to pay everywhere..Frankly I'm amazed it didn't happen sooner..

I had a look at the link, but didn't see anything that states exactly what the proposals are. Is the proposal aimed at just bikes or are all forms of transport going to be charged for parking?

In Taunton they have fancy parking meters that you have to enter your reg number by the side of the space number. No ticket is issued but you have a set time limit. If this sort of machine is used then parking is not going to be free for anyone, never mind bikes.

Otherwise, how the fuck are you supposed to prove that you have paid for your space? More to the point how is the council going to police parking?

I was living in Northampton when the council had a big purge on parking. They employed dozens of non reflectives and other sub species that couldn't speak coherant, fluent English. They devastated the town centre in less time than it takes to tell. I was arrested for slapping one of the non reflectives for putting a parking ticket on my brand new 600 paint job, (Lot of money at the time).

I can guarantee that we will never get to know who exactly is responsible for this. All we will be told is that "The Council have decided" after having been "Advised" by "Experts" that parking charges will be brought into force for the benefit of the local population. No local population will be consulted in any way. None of the "Experts" will be indentified and no written evidence of "Advice" will be forthcoming. IF IT ACTUALLY exists, we mere mortal council tax payers will not be allowed to examine or question it. Now will anything we say or do actually make any difference to what the council actually do.

Therefore I suggest we invade the Derbyshire County Councils' luxury offices and beat seven shades of shit out of the entire council chamber. To be followed by a mass drag race through Matlock Bath and a bonfire at the council offices.

Its the only way to make politicians listen and take heed.

Chopper

That could work.

The big advantage being that the Council offices are about 3 miles away at Matlock Bank....

I think we should aim more at the sale of goods act or something like that..Maybe the argument should go something like this..If you sell a service or anything else it should be fit for purpose..Many parking areas have CCTV aimed at trying to catch people who have not paid road tax or even for a parking ticket..These CCTVs have a primary function of maximising profits and criminalising vehicle users..The reason you have to type in your registration number in some of these places is so that they can check if you are taxed and insured..even in some cases to see where you were at a given time..

But..

We are the customers, we pay the wages, we should get a decent service for that payment..Instead of the usual park at your own risk and the owners of this carpark accept no responsibility for damage or theft whilst parked here..There should be a notice saying this carpark is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV and the owners of the carpark accept responsibility for all vehicles legally parked on these premises..thieves and vandals will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law..

I would pay to park with a guarantee of safety like that backed up by a good public liability insurance..

John

When a new residence scheme was in its planing it had to be publically advertised and a consultation done... I got chatting to a local MP about Bike parking and he did all the leg work to created a free parking zone for our bikes!

Well in Reading they seem to be making 1.7m per year in profit from car parking and parking fines

http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2...parking_profit

And we get lovely NCP "parking attendants" to enforce the rules
