No different from all the sports bikes .... nowhere to put the other half and nowhere to put the tent, completely impractical

Went to the "market" and bought ??? a packet of fags?

Why do Yamaha actually want to look like a Harleys anyway?? The dyed in the wool Harley guys will slag them off for looking like Harleys, the cruisers guys will slag them off for looking like Harleys

It's like buying an 883 sporty without the 1200 upgrade option.

same price too.

Copying of one person = plagiarism
Copying off everyone = research

When the japs started building bikes kawasaki bought a BSA A10 and ran it on the bench till it went bang then they stripped it down and found out why it went bang fixed that then ran it again till it went bang and again put that right, in the end they had a engine that was better than BSA's but had no soul
this way they found out the weak spots in that engine
That sir is fucking research

Copying for the sake of it is just wrong
The japs will never build a Harley because they are fucking japanese and will take out the soul of the fucking thing, people will buy them, but at the end of the day they are buying a copy not the real thing, it may well be better than the real thing but it's a fucking copy
Remember when you buy the real thing you can fix it with a copy you may as well throw it away it's fucking worthless

I use a Zippo lighter why? because it's the real thing not a copy when the hinge fucks up i send it back they fix the hinge and send me a new insert along with my old one they have one happy customer and i have spare parts for my lighter this way i feel good about their product and recomend their product to everyone i meet

Why did i mention the lighter well it's a fucking good product that has many copies just like Harley i think everyone on here knows i'm not a harley lover but it's one hell of a good product that has many copies just like my Zippo

To be totaly honest i have been looking at harleys recently and may well have found one i will buy if i can get the funds together
would i buy a copy would i fuck

If your Harley fucks up they aint gonna fix it and send it back.

I have to admit the japs make some great bikes..

I just don't think the bolt is anything special..

I like my Drifter, my honda shadows are just shadows..

John.

John you know me i wont knock anyone for what they chose to ride

The jap bikes are bloody good bikes in their own right but i wish they would stop making harley clones the yam MT01[think thats what they call it] is a bike i fancy myself
of the bikes i have riden in the last few years that i didn't like were a dragstar i seemed to be reving the guts out of it to get anywhere it may just be me but it wasn't my cup of tea it didn't ride like a twin

another one was the triumph bonneville cruiser the 800 twin to me it seemed to be a british copy of a japanese copy of a british bike that had lost it's way somewhere along the road

and my old speed four another british copy of a japanese bike don't get me wrong the speed four was great fun when it was on the boil but a pain in the ass to keep there and forget it in town all those revs just to get it moving had every copper for miles around looking out for it

The speed four, bonneville, and dragstar are all good bikes but they have something missing for me

My old Beemer suits me it looks shit, handles well, goes well, one up or two up it will pull from 2000 revs in top two up, and no fucker in their right mind will ever try to copy that bloody stupidly wide engine to put in a bike [it sure fucks up filtering]
If i can get the funds together i will be buying a harley something thats been sorted infact i may have found the bike now i just have to find the cash

+1 to most of that, from someone who really likes "metric customs" to use the yank magazine perjorative.
The MT01 (and MT03) were both really great imo, as was the BT1100 Bulldog that preceeded them (remember that anyone, lookied like a Duke monster[ish] with a Virago engine?). I love the Rocket III and the 1990s Thunderbird, and the legend/adventurer varients. Whilst I like the current Trumpet customs (at least they have parallel twins for a bit of variety) there is a little too much samey-samey out there.
Why don't Yamaha do a few with modified VMax engines? Kwak used to do that ZL1000 (if I remember the name right), custom style in-line 4 engine, barrel of laughs. Why nothing like that now?
Credit to Honda for a styling change with the Fury, but I agree with Chopper about the exposed frame hitting a sudden end at the swing arm (why no softail, even if they don't wanna risk a hardtail). And what happened to the Valkyrie?

I would quite happily buy and run any non-shagged custom: HD, Trumpet, rice-burner; but I can't escape the idea that most Japanese customs are desinged by people who just don't quite get it - which is why you get chromed plastic. When they let someone else design it for them, you get the Rune. I like the Rune, silly money though.

It's a V-twin but is a Ducati a copy of a Harley.... Hardly. I suppose all new V's will be held up against H-D's but I don't see a resemblance apart from the engine shape......

Not really, just that not all V-twins are copying H-D, I'd say it's mnore a case of H-D coming into the 20th century........

Not sure how that happened as it came on my screen as a new post, didn't look ate the date. When somebody posts something new after I have logged out it shows as a Bold lettering instead of the normal, so I know which threads are active. It showed it as bold.... Perhaps The Guberment trawled through all my posts and activated this thread by mistake..... Spooky
