Question Cat c advice

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice about my little bikey

So I had an accident in July and just got my bike back. It's a 2007 cbr 125 (for now ) and its been classed as a cat c. It looks like it needs a circlip for the gear changer and a new front indicator. It's got a few scratches on the exhaust and fairing and a tiny crack in the fairing and a bent rear brake leaver.

My dads helping with the repairs but once they're done what else do I have to do to get it back on the road. I've tried to look it up online but all the posts are a bit old.

Any help is much appreciated, they've taken my hire bike back and I'd like to get back on the bike asap!

Thank you for your time =D

Hayley

Welcome to the Forum, Friend. Fill out the user CP up on the left hand side and tell us a bit about yourself.

I know I keep saying this but Harry is your man to ask the question to.

I think you can expect to have to have to present it for a vehicle identity check and put it through a fresh mot before riding it, but am not 100% sure of this.

You couldn't have picked a worse moment as the legislation changes on the 26th of this month.

At present bikes are exempt VIC tests which only considers cars.
At present bikes can just be repaired and returned to the road, as far as the law is concerned.

As far as I can make out this will not change, but its DVLA who I don't work for and some of the changes have the word "vehicles" where I think they mean cars.

Do you have the V5 log book ? If you do then contact your insurers and see if they require any tests (possibly MoT) before they will re-insure the bike.

If aint got a V5 then you'll have to ask DVLA for one which I think they will provide for a fee. Then its just your insurer you have to deal with.

Remember they are a private company so they can make any rules they want.

did this with a mate a couple of years back.
he had to get his checked and moted before insurers would touch it.
it was down to the wording used on the database the insurers use.

his had bent forks, wheel and smashed mud guard and broke light and indicators. all parts came out of the spares bin and off ebay. insurers wanted receipts for everything and insisted on the tests to prove it was road worthy.

Thank you so much for the replies guys Very appreciated

I've contacted my insures and they want an mot after the repairs have been done!

I was hoping to get the parts tomorrow from my local Honda dealer but 124 for an indicator, brake leaver and circlip means I'm going to have to get them online and wait for delivery

I'm a bit worried that I may need a few more parts after receiving the parts list from my insurers o.0"

I know there's a lot on there that doesn't need to be done to make the bike road worthy but just three things I should repair? =/

It just needs to pass an MOT, not become a restoration project. My Cat C bandit is partly held together by gaffer tape. Passed MOT and that's all anyone is interested in.

That list you've been given CBRHaylis, is just them trying to justify why it's been written off. Ignore it. :-)

Just get it back on the road as best you can.
