Default Just a quick one.

Does a bolt on trike back end need a hand brake and hazard warning lights. ?. The type you can remove and return to a bike. So no mods to the bike. First trike so forgive me for being a bit thick. Also I saw a large scooter that had three wheels at the back. The centre one drove the scooter and the outer ones were like stabilisers. Is this still a trike or a quad? .Thanks ironmike.

Hi Mike,

Yes while its a trike it has to comply with trike regs.

As for the stabilzer stuff it depends on the space between each wheel.

From memory if the contact patches of the wheels are less than 350mm apart then they count as one wheel, like on a truck with double wheels. If the wheels are further apart then its a quad.

However there are all sorts of legal problems such as the requirement for all the wheels to be braked and I aint seen one yet that complies.

Thanks for the reply. If I see the scooter again I will ask the owner. I did see a harley with a stability kit (like on your bike when you were a kid). it came from THE USA. The guy had imported it with a load of other stuff. It took about 30 minutes to fit/remove. Don't know how legal it was but he hadn't had eny problems. This only had a brake on the center drive wheel. The others had mud gards only.no lights ect.
