Default Ring of Red

Not sure what to make of this, great idea that could easily turn into a bit of an embarrassment. A big undertaking to take on such short notice methinks.

DATE OF EVENT: 10TH NOVEMBER 2013

WORLD’S BIGGEST POPPY ON TWO WHEELS!

A call is going out to motorcyclists all over the country to help create what is believed to be the world’s largest poppy. It is planned for motorcyclists to come together on Sunday 10th November to ring the 117 miles of the M25 in Red.
Calls are going out to motorcycle clubs, groups and enthusiasts to be on the M25 by 12:30. They are asked to wear a red T-Shirt and a poppy. It is intended that all the bikers will converge onto the M25 from the 36 slip roads and services area, all to be on the M25 at 12:30 and when the front of each group has caught up with the tail of the previous group the ring will be complete. We are also going to try and get Google to take a satellite picture of this spectacular event.

Sky News are about to confirm involvement with 2 helicopters and BBC, BBCR2, CNN, local and other national agencies are being involved. The time has deliberately been set to allow those who also wish to show their respects at 11am and observe the 2 minutes to do so.

London bikers only then..

Knocks me out on so many levels..

church parade 11 to 12.

I don't own a red T shirt.

3 Hour ride to the M25 in freezing rain..

Even if I wore a red T shirt on a black bike it wouldn't show much from the air..

This is a joke right..

John.

Well done everyone who joined in this event and raised so much money for the Royal British Legion.

Nobody does charity like bikers.

Respect to everyone who turned up But £2500 is not a lot of money when there was a claimed 15000 bikers there (on Daily Mirror report), thats about 17p from each rider.

The way I read it the organiser reckoned it would take 15000 bikers to complete the ring which would work out at one bike every 13.8 yards, They say that they don't know how many bikers turned up but one red T shirt every 13.8 yards will not look like a poppy from above..I have to admit I didn't attend, I dressed in my black clothes, pinned a poppy to my lapel and attended the local service at our town war memorial.

That figure was published before the event started. It soon flew over £6K and is still rising. The event was a success and is being expanded in 2014 to include a Ring Of Red round the M60 Manchester as well as the M25 to give Riders from other regions a chance to join in.

I suppose we could ride around one of the roundabouts at Tredegar..but I don't think it will impress anyone.
