I turned right at a mini roundabout cancelled my indicator then reset it as I had to turn right again within 60 yds. A car going the other way stopped and waved me across, I checked my right mirror before turning and it was full of a car that was never going to stop.

It hit me so hard that the bike went passed the car giving way and fell on it's side in the middle of the road. I did a back sommersault over her bonnet slid up her windscreen and gracefuly rolled onto the road were I was looking at a truck wheel heading straight at me head. Said wheel was attached to a truck which was able to stop. fortunatley.

Another biker stopped and took witness names and got the address of the car driver. What a star he was.

I reckon the insurance will write off me bike, and the hospital have straaped up my right wrist. Don't remember even hitting that but it's swollen and hurts a bit. The X rays showed a lot of old damage which may be obscuring any new injury.

So no bike, no guitar or piano, and it aint helping me sex life either.

Sounds like you were lucky on a few fronts, but the loss of the bike is always a bitter pill. The penalty for knocking bikers off of bikes, running over bus queues and parking cars in swimming pools (all of which seem to happen with bizarre regularity) should be execution.

It's the kindest thing.

Speedy recovery Harry.
" Doctor, when my wrist heals will I be able to play guitar?"
" Of course you will young man, and the piano too"
" That's good because I couldn't play them before"

Seriously though, all the best.

Speedy recovery.

Healing vibes to you squire. Glad to hear your relatively ok. Tell your insurers/solicitors you NEED a hire bike, whether you can ride it yet or not. Focuses the other drivers insurers minds somewhat when they're paying a daily rate for bike hire, and in my experience if you don't get one straight away, they'll not give you one down the line. What ya gonna buy/build with the wonga??

Well I'm walking now, but disaster area

It's the first bike accident I've had since 1970 !

Bike update. Always get the other person's reg they say. I went one better, while investigating the reason the rear wheel was reluctant to turn I found her number plate had been carried round by the back tyre till it jammed in the swing arm.

I looked on auto trader to get prices for similar bikes and priced some of the parts that are busted. This I hoped would get me ahead of the game.

Her insurance company phoned and after seeing some photos agreed the bike is a write off and as I wanted to keep it decided not to send an assessor.
We agreed a price and added the cost of helmet gloves jacket and trousers.

The dosh should be in the bank within three days.

I'm ok, I used to feel worse than this after a rugby game.

are you actually ok?

only reason i ask is that these days they are paying out and closing claims very fast, reason being then I dont beleive that you can enter into a injury claim later

a friend of mine was rear ended a while ago, she reckoned she was ok (didnt want to complain or be a pain to anyone), the harley needed mudguard and bits, insurance paid out over the odds without question, also added money without asking her to cover a jacket and helmet, she was right pleased

months later she found a problem in her neck that the hospital reckon was likely created by the rear ending. now really suffering, affecting work etc.

I despise the crashcash people but if its genuine then thats what you pay out for.

Thanks as always for the good wishes.

Tony I think you are correct I was gobsmacked at the speed the insurance people acted. But I refused to say that I was ok and I just replied that it was too soon to tell.

Her father in law rang me and offered to pay for the broken mirror. I said that was nice of him but it also needs a number plate and a back mudguard to hang it from. Oh and an exhaust an indicator, a crash bar that is bent a respray for the tank and side panels and two smashed panniers. Also unkown yet is wether the frame and swing arm are bent which includes the drive shaft.
He went quiet so I added by the way that I had a government lap top in one of the panniers and that GCHQ Cheltenham might want a word about that.

Then there's me helmet jacket and trousers a wrist that the hospital don't know if it's broke or not multiple bruising and a week off work.

He replied "What about her no claims?"

Makes yer heart bleed for the poor girl dunnit.

I really REALLY despise these money grabbing injuryforyou type legal cunts. However, there is a really big BUT in there.

If you have had an accident on your bike that was not your fault, then the insurance company wants to get sorted as quick as possible to reduce THIER costs. Trust me there is no way in hell that they are all interested in you as an injured party. They are simply protecting their profits, shareholders and company image.

The insurance industry has caught onto to the fact that these legal robbing fuckers will crucify them in court, if it goes that far. So they are taking action to reduce the amount they have to pay out, not just in compensation but also in the outrageous legal fees the solicitors will screw out of them. No solicitor is going to take on a case that is likely to fail and mean many hours work for fuck all. Mention legal action, think in telephone numbers.

So in reality the insurance company is trying to cut out the middle man, IE: solicitors.

My daughter was knocked off her bike two weeks ago today. I was amazed at the response from the insurance company. They couldn't have been nicer or any more helpful. My little princess just wants to get it all sorted and get back on the road. She was rather confused by all the questions and wondered what they are up to, so she told them, on my instructions, that she will NOT make any decisions until she has talked it over with me. She then told them that they have to talk to me.

So far they have agreed to cough up the full retail price for the parts needed to repair the bike, all her clothing, helmet, gloves and boots. They are very keen to pay me for collecting my baby and her bike and for me to repair the bike, because I don't charge 50 per hour like the dealers. They fucked up on the hire bike, promised one but it never happened. Now they are very keen to make an offer for her injuries. I have told her to wait, refuse to accept any offer and refuse to speak to them without consulting me first.

Bastards have already tried to cut me out of the loop, because they know she is unsure if any offer is a good one. Plus there is always that catch of, Accepting an offer in full and final settlement. If they are making an offer, they can be pushed further. Screw the fuckers, but not to the point that they are ready to go to court. That could take years to settle, as is usual.

Fortunately my baby's injuries were relatively minor, but I am determined to make them pay for her getting hurt and very upset about her new bike getting bashed. I really don't give a flying fuck about the guy that knocked her off, or his loss of NCB. That is what he paid his insurance for and it might, though probably not, teach him to watch out for bikes in the future. I would really like to see my daughter get paid enough to cover the cost of the next bike she moves up to. Not a massive amount or enough to retire on, but it should make her feel better.

You never know folks, maybe it is time that the insurance industry actually paid their dues. Give them hell when you can, but cut out the middle men.

Hope you get sorted out quickly Harry, get well soon mate.

Chopper

The money from the insurance was in the bank within 3 working days.

So I started ordering bits with David Silver Honda. The left pannier is on back order estimated delivery March 2014

So I went on Ebay and found some second hand. I ordered from two different suppliers one left and one right.

The right one arrived today but it's a bloody left.

I eagerly await the arrival of 'tother one, what's the chances of it being wrong too?

To answer the above question - "Should have protected her no-claims then!"

I did and its worked a treat 7 years no claims bonus and I'd forgotten I'd added it on untill the letter came through for renewal... Win!
