Default CBT certificates

My aresole insurance company has asked to see my CBT certificate which I did have 12 years ago but now can't find (I never bothered taking a test whilst I was in the Navy). I have searched the house upside down and I think the company I did my CBT and DAS with has gone out of business. Anyone got any ideas where I can get a copy?

The DL196 is only valid for two years so you are a little out of date. If you have A or A2 endorsed on your license you do not require a DL196.

So, with an expired DL196 you are illegally on the road?.
Who checks them? I made my lad retake his when it expired and nobody has asked to see it, the police when he was pulled or the his insurance broker when he renewed his policy.
They should go back to a two year limit to take your test then back to a moped for twelve months.
There must be people out there who's provisional license is that old that the old group 'D' doesn't expire 'til they are 70!, how do they get away without taking CBT?.

No one checks them until something goes wrong, then the police screw you for riding illegally and your insurance won't pay out claiming non disclosure.

my thoughts exactly. if you have a spill, then its almost certain that your insurance company will refuse to pay out cos you will be riding without complying to the terms of your policy, and it WILL be written there in the small print somewhere.

I have a full licence with the A category, I need to prove to my insurance that I have passed my CBT. I tried to explain to them that I couldn't pass my bike test unless I had already passed my CBT but it was like talking to a brick wall. The slapper on the end of the phone had a script to work to and wasn't able to deviate from it

Direct her to the DVLA site. As you hold a Cat A license you do not require a CBT DL196.

Find a different insurer or speak to the insurance ombudsman.

Sounds like quite a bind, There would be no logical reason to keep the cbt certificate, it's expired and replaced by the category A licence in any case. might be time to ask to talk to the supervisor or switch insurers / talk to the ombudsmann

you have to send your cbt cert to dvla when you send for your full licence
dvla will not send your licence to you with out it, you also have to take your cbt cert to the test centre when you do your test
so you wouldn`t have a full licence
sounds like the insurance company are total dicks to me

been onto my insurance and they have seen the light and the girl I originally spoke to was wrong to insist on my producing my CBT or she would cancel my policy. I had a quiet word with the supervisor and explained to her and she said she will deal with it. No doubt they have a chart up in their mess room which they tick off how many innocents they have managed to wind up per shift, TWATS !!!!!!

I had carole Nash tell me yesterday that as my gpz was on a classic policy i have not been accruiing NCD and so all the quotes I had from other insurers for the xjr were wrong and i should just pay them 110 to add the xjr onto an ammended policy for the 900 loosing my wife from that policy and it only being for 10 more months.

I told them it was irrelevant what they did with no claims as the other companies simply wanted to know my claims history and were willing to give me full no claims with 23 years of claim free riding. He told me outright i was lieing and 99.9% of all insurers would not count years with a classic policy as counting towards no claims discount.

So the xjr is insured through MCE with breakdown & legal cover for 106 fully comp with class 1 business use for 12 months and the gpz is still with carole nash until the insurance runs out in 10 mths when if i have mended it still have it i will sorn it for 2 mths then add it to the mce policy. I also got a 10 voucher from bikeinsurer.com for getting the quote through them

Me too. When he stepped off the kerb for the emergency stop I thought I was going to kill him. I was on a trailly, it was raining and he stepped out from behind a van. When I opened my eyes I noticed his were still shut. Still, I stopped in time and missed him so I passed.

my mates dad took his test in southport. back then(1960's) the test centre was in the middle of town and a trick of the testers was to send you off riding round the block, and when you went out of sight, to run through woolworths, which at the time had an entrance on two parallel running streets and step out on the opposite street to do the emergency stop. he came round the bend on his bantam to find the examiner laid in the road amidst a crowd of people amongst whom was the rider of a similar coloured bantam to his own, who had been merrily riding along going to work when this random bloke with a clipboard had jumped into his path!!!

Cool

Did my test in the army with five other guys. Any mistakes and the instructor would punch you in the head. He dragged one guy of the bike and battered shit out of him.

The course lasted 6 weeks. We had old BSA350 singles to ride. They had a valve lift to start them. The kickers were almost impossible to use and VERY painful when they fired back. Brakes were by appointment to the nearest tree/fence/hedge/wall. Elton John lights, (Candle in the wind). They were weighted down with massive batteries for the radios which were bloody heavy. Carried a shovel, first aid kit, tools, rifles, ammo and your doss bag. Bloody nightmare things to ride. All of us came off several times, usualy several times a day.

We all passed, didn't dare not to pass.

Chopper
