Default Chagrin

As I am on the most intelligent forum in the world and in the company of mental giants..I thought I would seek enlightenment on something..

Chagrin..means being upset or annoyed...

But I have been around since gods dog was a pup and I have never heard anyone use it in a sentence..I've seen it used in books many times but nobody ever seems to say it..

So anyone ever heard anyone use it..does it sound like shag rin..chag rin..or what..

Another pointless post by..

John.

Default Isn't the interweb wonderful!!!!!!

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/chagrin

It's the sort of word you expect to hear Stephen Fry using.
And being a word of French origin I would expect it to be pronounced shag...ran!!!!!

Cheers, Mick.

My Nan used it, cos she thought it sounded posh.

When someone was upset she would say dimissively "It's just Chagrin"

Also Shagreen is leather made from shark skin and used like sandpaper.

Can I have a gold star please mister?

I've heard it quite a bit, though mainly on telly and radio.

Correct pronunciation is shagran

Chagrin is one of those words that only get seen in the pages of local newspapers.

Like Rumpus and Fracas.

When did you last hear anyone say "There was a bit of a rumpus down at the pub last night, Chopper got into a fracas and bit a pikey bastard's ear off."

It's true what they say you can choose your friends but not your family.
