Default Across Britain

Did you realize that to cross Britain at it's widest point is only 345 miles..

Haverfordwest to Felixstowe..using all roads shortest route..

John

Do you realise that the most northerly point of the British Isles you can reach by road is Skaw, a small settlement on Unst in the Shetland Isles.

I'm wondering if I have one big ride left in me, all around the British coast, about 4000 miles...

You may be able to drive on it, but you can't ride from your house to Skaw without getting your bike wet...

The vehicle deck on the ferry is rather dry, John. So no getting anything wet really.

Unless you go through Stirling. It always pisses down there for some reason......

If you do, give me a shout, I live on the coast road up here and I may be able to get on a very 'interesting' stretch of the road, through the Submarine base.

The mersey tunnels can be a pain in the arse depending on what time of day you use them, i.e. avoid rush hour! Bikes are exempt from the tolls too.

Do it, John. It's an excellent adventure.

The Sub base is in Faslane near to Glasgow about 20 minutes away on the Gareloch which runs to the Firth of Clyde. Used to have the yank base as well at the Holy Loch which also runs into the Firth and is now shut down,as usual the Yanks left the locals a parting gift of pollution in the water.

Faslane is well known for having one of the oldest established peace camps in Europe it is popoulated by a bunch of misinformed misguided lesbians and left wing work shy layabouts.

Friend of mine lives on the hill above the Clyde just to the west of Glasgow and said he used to see subs go by the house quite often, but not for a while now.

There is not quite as much traffic. Just like the rest of the armed services the Submarine service has been decimated. Also our new class of boat is about 5 years behind schedule (and millions over budget and BAE still haven't been penalised!)
