Default Replica Chroming kits

I just bought a replica chrome brush plating kit and though to give iit a go. Has anyone had experience of this?

Its just to repair a couple of bits on the dragstar (rear rack and paneer stays) cheap aftermarket ones I picked up 5 years ago...

Chrome plating is a specialist job and takes about 15 different processes and umpteen chemicals to complete. I can't figure out what you get that can in a kit that can replicate this.

It will be interesting to see how you get on.

Its a nickle/ zinc solution that you pass a 9v current through a brush and part untill it sticks.... Seems to work... and is about 6 stages if you include rinse.

I might have been cheaper sending it to the professionals.

I reckon if you take your time you could get a decent finish and the satisfaction of it being all your own w*rk. Show us some pics of how you get on with it please. Gothtec.

the finish is bright like chrome, keeps its shine like chrome and is harder than nickel.

so it aint chrome then....

I've been using it and its turning out quite good...And once you've used the chemicals you can pick up more quite cheaply. My boss at work used to metal plate, so he's been giving tips.

At the moment I'm creating c opper solution so I can copper plate as well...

Its far more fun and educational than just sending it off.

I'll get back to you a durability.

Its definately better than paint, but you can assemble the kit from things you can adapt or buy locally... I just been to a hairdressers to buy peroxide and tescos for malt vinegar... You can use battery acid to prepare/etch and deioniised water to clean... now what can you use as a cleaner/degreaser?!
