Parkers suck. Go buy a copy of UMG thats probably a better guide.

Check this link, hacky.

Used Bike Guide

Yours was in excellent condition, as evidenced by pics you posted so you would definitely have to spend around 750 to get another in similar condition.

It is wise to use sites like Used Bike Guide as their prices are usually pretty much spot on when it comes to valuing your bike for insurance purposes. Also check the for sale ads in Classic Bike magazines as they crop up in them from time to time and are usually around 500 more than what they are really worth.

If you valued it at 750 when you took out the insurance that is the amount they will base the claim on, then they will say it has depreciated during the time you have had it and offer about 400. You have to refuse the first offer saying that as it is an original it has increased in value and for a replacement in that condition would cost over 1000 they will say it can't have been that good or it wouldn't have caught fire, then you will probably settle for 750.

If only dealing with insurance claims was as easy as that . Dealing with them all day to settle claims for vehicles needing repairs or to be classed as total loss , dont see many go through with that much ease , unless of course the repairs are so minor it has no chance of being written off and no assessor need look at it either , that makes a big difference .

Have they sent out an assessor to see your bike ? Betting he wouldnt know what it was meant to look like anyway

This is what I have previously done and got good results.
Print out the two values of over 1100-1200 that I sent you links to. (get as many as possible)
Send them in and tell them this is how much it would cost to get another.
Hopefully they will meet somewhere in the middle.Between their estimate and your proof of market value.( the adds)
Good luck

Don't believe owt they say they want to keep there money.

Insurers tried it on with me.Bike was insured and parked on drive as I said when took policy out.Didn't want to pay me though-camped out in there office 9-5 for three days putting folk off who came in-cash settlement fourth day

Bard got it right with hang all the lawyers, just forgot to add underwriters!

Make an appointment with CAB
http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

Worse case scenario ,I'll do everything I can to fix your bike-after all 'tis a kwak

got the officiall word today..they aint paying up...case closed!!!!!
so im thinking about wacking it on ebay..
as for what it needs...
complete wiring loom, switchgear(both),reg.rec, cdi, generator, coils, starter solenoid, starter motor..
basically everything that conects to the loom..
and heres a good laugh, the "independant asessor" put the cause down to a short from one of the coils, so i asked if that was the case then surely it would have just blew a fuse not caught fire to the loom...there answer was" there engineer has the qualifications and i dont"
so the advice here is that if this happens to you at anytime soon, just make sure the fucker burns up big time then theyll pay out...

Strip it, clean the bits up and part it out on ebay, that's the XJ paid for.

Good things do come from unexpected calamity.
