just ride the bloody thing, if it goes wrong and you know how to repair it, then repair it, if not get someone you know who can to do it....i loved the Fj12, but i would only ride her in good weather, this old en454 i have, i ride it in anything and when she gets dirty, i shove another sticker on or another coat of matt black, she aint a rat, but a dirty noisy bitch......loverly

accident damaged toy that i enjoy (very efficient and fast)...

my GL1100 that was fun to build and ride (my paint, a mates polishing)...

my hooligan toy (gives me a silly grin every time i get on it)...

"Alice", my present build...

i've owned scooters, mopeds and assorted makes/models of bikes and worked on most of them, but i don't personally care whether a person has ridden a million bikes, passed his test yesterday or been riding longer than i've been alive ...

if they're enjoying thier bike/scooter/moped/trike, that's all that really matters opinions are like arseholes , and we all know the rest of the saying

For what it's worth, and I know I'm going to get slammed for this but I think you need to have enough knowledge to sort yourself out if you ride an old bike. A mobile phone aint enough. You want to do that, buy something new and shiny. Doesn't matter what gender you are.

Mobile phone and an AA card is enough, once home you can get it fixed....

My taste in bikes has gone full circle from an impoverished apprentice riding old Brit Iron bought for a tenner or less (actually knocked on a door on spec and got given a 350sv Ariel, which broke my knee backfiring). Got married and rode loads of small bikes including a Suzuki 80 and honda 50 stepthrough, and with my size and Crystal Palace hill to navigate, didn't last too long. Last few bikes... Virago 535 (too slow) Ducat Monster 900 (Beautiful ride and a head turner) my sons learner bike, a VFR400RR (135mph ballistic missile which he never got to ride) and back to my roots a 1940 BSA WM20 500sv in full army trim. 45 years is a long time to be riding and the amount of bikes I've owned, through choice or because it was all I could afford is huge. As somebody pointed out every bike, be it a Harley, Ducati or Honda has it's own quirks and nature and if it suits your riding style, then that's the one for you.

Everyone knows I like mi shiney (Dragstar 650 classic) and I like mi rats. As long as its not a pocket rockets I'm pretty easy to please. I like mi shiney bikes laid back, feminin and able to do the job (300 miles, at 75mph, with luggage/trailer and wife). The more gothic in look the better.

As apposed to mi rats that I like to be small, lean, manouverable and animalistic...

Next weekend I may be taking delivery of a Honda superdream in restored nick and new respray.... I'm fighting the urge as I type...
