"The actual reason for the welsh show being cancelled had in fact nothing to do with the police but the relations between the organiser and the royal welsh agricultural society..." The Road (MAG) Sept / Oct 2008 p61

I don't know the full context of this quote but this is untrue. Think about it, if it was the case that would mean the committee lied on their own press release on their own website as to the reasons for the shows cancellation which just wouldn't happen in the real world - unlike whatever planet the author of that little gem is on.

I suppose it could be seen as vaguely right if taken in the context that the police didnt stop it, they just persuaded the showground that the organisers might be part of a biker gang...

It's very tenuous though!

I too would like to see a little more of the text around that statement in the article (I kind of forgot to renew my mag membership so dont get the road any more)

The quotation is made in the latest MAG magazine by their National Network Communications Officer, David Short - the article gives no indications as to the source of his information

I wouldn't know about that, but as Mr Short has connections in the police, you can imagine where he got his information from.

Old Boys Network in full effect methinks.

saw this on first page.
Did they really think that a cowardly attack on the M40, 15 miles away, one year ago, would result in more arrests this year connected with that crime? They got the bastards who did it.
lost track of that case, have the people from coventry been tried and found guilty. Dont remember it mentioned on news.

ah right.
police stop rock & Blues, posibly reduce income to outlaws and prevent hiring exspensive solicitor to argue the case.
Wonder if police will spend the 1.4 mill income from bulldog to finance this case.
Seems either way plod gain out of this mess.
We all party together ok. Its time we all lived and worked to promote our lifestyle together. Or plod mite find exscuse to close us all down.

Don't need to imagine it, I'm living it!!!!!!!!!! Ill due to medical fuck up, not enough income to put a pushbike on the road, let alone a motorbike. This government wants people in this position to fuck off and die. At least we'll be off their official benefits figures.

Sorry folks, rant over.

That's how they defend bikers' rights is it. I'd be asking if that was a potentially libellous statement if I was Steve. He wont tho because he's a strong MAG supporter and far too nice a bloke.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick about the 1.4 million mate, that's the figure it supposedly cost to police the bash, not how much the coppers got.

Got a letter from me Ma, who knows no more about bikers and their lifestyle than yer average woman in the street, except that her son "looks a state and really should grow up!" The following is part of it
"It said on the TV that there were hundreds of policemen on duty checking cars, after the death that happened after this event last year. Seems a bit silly to me because the biker was shot on the motorway, wasn't he? The police can hardly follow every one home to make sure they're safe."
O.K. she may have paid more attention than the average bod cos she knew I was trading but surely if the TV coverage had her describing the police action as "silly" then how much support did the police get from the ordinary man in the street?

be interesting to find out just what their "intelligence" is - or was it just their way of justifying an absurd over-reaction

From the first link on this thread:

"I can look back over the four days of Bulldog Bash with a degree of satisfaction because there were no serious incidents this year."

Surely there were no serious incidents at the Bash any other year either?

As I think has already been said, no amount of Police over-reaction will make sure that nothing happens anywhere en route to or from the event. What a waste of public resources.

I agree, a complete waste of resources and loss of business to the local community.
